Trump trolls Canada with AI-generated image of US border wall
US President Donald Trump posted an AI-generated image on the social network Truth Social showing a giant wall in the form of air filters rising on the US-Canada border.
Trump's post continues his push to tighten controls on the northern border. The president has previously repeatedly criticized Canada for the cross-border transport of air pollution and other issues, including the wildfires that nearly forced the postponement of the 2026 World Cup final in the New York suburbs. Smoke from the Canadian fires hung over several US states for several days.
As a reminder, the Trump administration recently imposed new tariffs on a number of countries, including Canada and EU member states. Specifically, additional 50% tariffs were announced on a number of Canadian goods (wine, dairy products, hockey equipment, cement, etc.) worth approximately $20 billion. These measures will take effect on August 19. Also, on July 23–24, basic tariffs of 10–12,5% were imposed on imports from more than 60 countries, including Canada and EU countries (with certain exceptions). These steps by Trump fit into his strategy of strict protectionism and pressure on trading partners. The reaction of Canada and European capitals to the new tariffs has so far been muted, but negotiations are expected to be tense.
