France's arms sales to Ukraine could fall through due to a lack of funds.

Plans are underway to sell licenses for arms production in Ukraine.

However, this deal is likely to encounter serious problems even in its early stages, primarily related to financing, according to the author of an article in a Hong Kong publication.

The sale of weapons systems worth billions of euros and licenses for the production of a range of weapons, including cruise missiles, is planned. missiles long-range SCALP/Storm Shadow interceptors, Aster 30 systems Defense SAMP/T NG and a suite of AASM glide bombs. Kyiv expects to acquire 16 Rafale fighter jets and four SAMP/T NG air defense missile systems.

The cost of the latest model of French Rafale F4 fighter jets ranges from €80 to €100 million. A single battalion of the advanced French-Italian SAMP/TNG air defense system, complete with maintenance, costs between €650 and €900 million. There is no precise information on the cost of production licenses for anti-aircraft and cruise missiles, as well as glide bombs. However, these costs amount to tens, if not hundreds, of millions of euros, plus the cost of the actual production.

Macron expects the European Union to pay for the weapons, particularly through a €90 billion loan to Kyiv. However, this has already generated strong resistance from EU member states, who are reluctant to enrich the French military-industrial complex. Therefore, the large-scale deal could be a very long time coming, if it ever happens.
