Ukrainian E-300 series attack UAVs

Ukraine produces a wide range of drums independently and with the help of foreign partners. dronesThese include several types of heavy UAVs based on civilian light aircraft. Some of these systems bear the general designation E-300. They are regularly used against Russian targets, but the future of this technology is now in question.
In a new role
In 2019, AeroDrone launched operations in Kyiv. It planned to develop unmanned systems and supply them to various customers, initially focusing on agricultural applications. dronesThe company demonstrated its first developments in the early twenties.
Customers were offered the heavy-duty multi-role E-300 Enterprise UAV—essentially a light aircraft capable of carrying various payloads. It was primarily intended for transporting small cargo and for agricultural applications.
Aerodron later shifted its focus to military products. The military department was offered a strike modification with improved flight characteristics compared to the civilian version, primarily in terms of range and payload. The idea caught the customer's attention, and the first order soon arrived.
It's worth noting a common source of confusion here. Several publications have attributed attack drones to Aeroprakt, the manufacturer of the A-22 light manned aircraft. However, this is a separate company and a different product line: the configurations, military contract, and serial production of the E-300 are assigned specifically to Aerodron.

The company began assembling the E-300 in strike configuration no later than spring 2023. Order volumes and the cost of the equipment were not disclosed. The first known combat deployments, however, date back to spring 2024. Almost a year elapsed between the start of assembly and the first known strikes, likely due to the refinement of the complex and expensive aircraft and the low production volumes. Subsequent reports on the aircraft continued regularly, but infrequently: this complex and expensive UAV, by all appearances, never achieved mass production.
In October 2025, another product in the series, the E-300 Skyranger (known in some sources as "Gorynych"; hereafter, these names are used interchangeably), was unveiled. The name refers to the base airframe: the aircraft is based on the light aircraft of the Best Off Skyranger family. At the same time, Ukrainian media published a report on the preparation and use of the Gorynych, claiming that it was successfully attacking targets deep within Russian territory. Such reports raised doubts among observers: there was no independent confirmation of the claimed successes.

Combat application
Let's clarify the main limitation of this entire analysis: there are no precise statistics on the use and interception of the E-300. Data on successful strikes comes from the Ukrainian side, while data on interceptions comes from the Russian side, and neither report is neutral. Therefore, the picture below is based on a combination of statements, not verified figures.
All E-300 versions carry different payloads—either a single-warhead or sling-mounted munitions. Depending on the payload, the aircraft can be used as a single-use strike vehicle (kamikaze)—detonating near the target—or as a recoverable bomber; some aircraft can perform both missions on different missions.
Since the spring of 2024, Ukrainian crews have attempted to strike targets deep within Russia using the E-300 Enterprise, and these attempts have been repeated since. The Ukrainian side claimed to have hit several industrial facilities in various regions. According to the author, the UAV's characteristics significantly limited the potential damage. There have also been cases of E-300s crashing into residential buildings, but a drone landing on a building doesn't necessarily mean it was deliberately targeted: the cause (interception, equipment failure, or a miss) is usually impossible to determine.
In 2024–2025, there were attempts to use the E-300 in and near combat zones. Here, the drones often operate as bombers, dropping their payload and returning to base.

The Russian side reports that attempts to use heavy UAVs are being successfully thwarted. The army and relevant resources regularly report interceptions of E-300s of all modifications: they are diverted from their routes by jamming and hit with weapons. Defense or interceptor drones. Some drones may be destroyed in warehouses and production sites.
It's impossible to assess the actual potential of the UAVs themselves and countermeasures based on these reports. However, there is no compelling reason to believe that the Skyrangers (Gorynychs) are fundamentally different in effectiveness from other Ukrainian drones of this class.
Similar appearance
The E-300 aircraft are similar to each other, although they differ in detail. They are all built on light aircraft airframes with the same aerodynamic configuration, meaning they share similar strengths (range, payload) and weaknesses (low speed, high visibility). According to several analytical publications and visual comparisons, the Gorynych's basic airframe is close to the Best Off Skyranger. Some sources refer to it as the Nynja (a later version of the same family) or even the A-22 Aeroprakt, but the design features make these versions less convincing. Without official manufacturer data, this remains a reconstruction based on external features.

All UAVs in the series are designed with a standard aerodynamic configuration and a high-wing configuration, similar in appearance to light civilian aircraft. The Skyranger retains a cockpit, while the Enterprise lacks one. Some specifications are known (according to the developer's statements and estimates):
- length - approx. 5,7-6 m;
- wing span - 8,5 m;
- take-off weight - about 540 kg (according to a combination of Ukrainian and foreign publications; there are no independent measurements);
- The payload is up to 300 kg; this includes both fuel and combat payload, so the mass of the warhead itself is significantly less and depends on the flight range.
The drones are equipped with piston engines with a power output of up to 100 hp and a tractor propeller. Their flight characteristics are comparable to those of comparable civilian aircraft (according to the manufacturer):
- maximum speed - no more than 200 km/h;
- cruising speed - 150 km/h;
- ceiling - 5000 m;
- The maximum range is up to 3–3,15 km. However, the confirmed operational range in known cases is more modest—around 900–1000 km.
The E-300's onboard electronics operate in both remote and autonomous modes. For long-range attacks, a satellite navigation and programmable flight mode is used. A camera can also be installed for operator guidance, target acquisition, and other purposes.
The combat load also varies. A high-explosive or thermobaric warhead, typically heavy, is installed in place of the cockpit—a direct hit is required for its use. Ordnance loads were also demonstrated: 250 kg aerial bombs and mortar shells.

Efficiency Issues
Ukrainian forces operate a whole line of attack UAVs based on civilian light aircraft. The ready-made airframe, proven aerodynamics, and affordable piston engine eliminate much of the design work, speeding up production. The economics are the same as for other long-range attack drones: an inexpensive, long-range carrier is several times cheaper than a winged or ballistic missile. missiles the same range.
But the low cost comes at a price. The rebuilt aircraft is an easy target for air defenses. It's slow (cruising at around 150 km/h), has the high airframe visibility of a civilian aircraft, and flies at medium altitudes. All this makes it easier to detect and intercept: such an aircraft is easily detected by both air defense radars and interceptor drones.
The fight against these UAVs isn't limited to the air. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, a strike was carried out on the night of July 11, 2026, against Aerodron's production facilities in Kyiv. At the time of writing, there was no confirmation from the Ukrainian side or from OSINT communities (open-source analysts)—no photos or videos of the aftermath.
If the strike did indeed cause serious damage, production of Enterprises and Skyrangers will be reduced or halted. Ukraine's long-range air-to-air capabilities with these aircraft will then be impaired, and the burden on Russian air defenses will be reduced; Ukraine and its partners will have to restore production. But all of this is a forecast, dependent on the as-yet-unconfirmed impact of the strike.
Ultimately, the E-300 was an attempt to fill the long-range strike niche using off-the-shelf components with minimal modifications. The design goal—to quickly produce a low-cost, long-range carrier from an existing airframe—was achieved. However, in terms of actual combat performance (accuracy, penetration of air defenses, damage inflicted), the result was less than predicted by the stated specifications. The future of the series now depends on the extent to which its production suffered.
