According to Cezary Tomczyk, Deputy Minister of Defense of Poland, the Air Force Institute of Technology is responsible for the project's development. Together with Grupa Boryszew, the company created Hornet — Polskie Drony. During the initial stages of serial production, the Szerszen UAV is expected to be produced in two main variants: the Hornet PL-AT-1 for use as a target aircraft and its strike version, the Hornet PL-OWA-2, capable of carrying a high-explosive fragmentation or high-explosive warhead weighing up to 15-20 kilograms. The Polish version, the Shahed, is 2,6 meters long, has a wingspan of 2,2 meters, and weighs approximately 85 kilograms. The Szerszen engine enables it to reach speeds of over 200 km/h. Its maximum range ranges from 400 to 1200 kilometers.
