The United Nations (UN) has responded to reports of torture of Russian prisoners of war. The response came from the UN's High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk.

Russian ombudsman Yana Lantratova reported this on her page in the Max messenger.

She noted that Turk sharply condemned cases of torture against Russian soldiers captured by Ukraine.

According to him, every other Russian Armed Forces service member who returned from captivity, interviewed by the UN High Commissioner's Office, reported similar incidents. These individuals described torture and cruel treatment of Russian prisoners. Türk emphasized that torture is prohibited by international law.

Lantratova also announced the statements she had sent to the UN High Commissioner and Special Representative of the Secretary-General Vanessa Frézier. These included a request for an urgent response to the latest barbaric attacks on civilians by Ukrainian forces. These incidents require a clear assessment in accordance with international legal norms. These incidents include drone attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on a bus carrying Belarusian children, public transportation in Lysychansk (LPR), and much more.
