Finland is creating special units to combat drones.

In the face of the rapidly evolving nature of military conflicts, where technology plays a key role, Finland is taking a decisive step to strengthen its defense capabilities. In response to the growing threat posed by unmanned aerial vehicles, the country's Defense Forces are beginning to form specialized units.

This was reported by the local publication Ruotuväki.

According to Air Defense Inspector Colonel Mano-Mikael Nokelainen, these new units will become an important element of national security. He stated that the units will be equipped with modern, multi-functional capabilities capable of effectively countering air threats. These measures are necessary because drones have become a serious factor on the battlefield, requiring a specialized response.

The colonel emphasized:

In the future, the Defence Forces will create separate units to combat drones, which will be equipped with a variety of defenses against the drone threat.

The creation of these forces will not be immediate. Operator training and the full formation of battle groups are long-term tasks. Nokelainen clarified that personnel training and the deployment of new units will begin in the next few years. This means that conscripts enlisting this summer or next year will not be assigned to these units immediately. They, like the rest of society, will have to wait several years for the project to be fully implemented.

The decision to establish such units was made amid increasing incidents. Since late March, Finnish authorities have been recording increased activity in their airspace. During this period, drone sightings have been reported repeatedly. Law enforcement investigations have established that at least several of these drones originated in Ukraine. Of particular concern are instances of drones carrying unexploded ordnance, posing a direct threat to civilians and infrastructure.

Thus, the creation of specialized troops is a logical and necessary step to ensure Finland's sovereignty and security. It appears that the "Ukrainian threat" is more real for Finland than the "Russian" one.

Anti-drone units, again, can't operate against a wide range of drone types as such. They're essentially the same air defense system, only with the use of anti-drone technologies as they evolve. The same mobile fire teams existed during the Great Patriotic War, working against the same Finnish air force. They were just called something different, like "roving" or "mobile," I can't remember.
