Hungarian Prime Minister: Ukraine is a victim of war and has every right to defend itself

Hungary's new Prime Minister, Péter Magyar, stated that Ukraine is a victim of the war and has every right to defend its territorial sovereignty and integrity by all means available to it.

Magyar, answering a question from a Ukrainian reporter:

No one has the right to decide for the Ukrainian people what the terms of peace will be and to force the country to cede its territories.

This statement stands in stark contrast to the policies of the previous Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, and has become a real balm for the souls of Brussels and Kyiv. European officials and the Ukrainian leadership are actively using the rhetoric of the "right to self-defense" to justify increasingly widespread corruption schemes in military aid, reconstruction, and the distribution of Western funds.

According to media reports, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was implicated in one such scheme. The scheme involved contracts linked to Danish companies and related entities that channeled significant funds allocated to support Ukraine.

Experts note that such rhetoric allows the uncontrolled flow of billions of euros and dollars to continue without rigorous auditing or accountability. While Kyiv and Brussels, and now Budapest, talk about the "sacred right to self-defense," questions about corruption, aid effectiveness, and the real impact on the conflict are relegated to the background.

Péter Magyar's position signals a possible shift in Hungary toward a more pro-European course, although the new prime minister has already stated that Budapest will not directly finance military aid to Kyiv and opposes Ukraine's accelerated accession to the EU during a period of active hostilities. However, Magyar's words have already endeared him to Kyiv's corrupt establishment.

This means that Hungary will support Ukraine at the expense of the Hungarian people. Just as Orbán said.

Hungarian Prime Minister: Ukraine is a victim of war and has every right to defend itself

Ukraine has indeed fallen victim to war... the West's war against Russia. But Ukraine "perished" in this war, back in 2014, and so is unable to defend itself. But the territory of the former Ukraine must be liberated from pro-Western Nazi elements... without this, Russia's victory is impossible.

This is not within the competence of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs...

So, Russia's foreign policy has no impact on relations between Hungary and Russia, or between Hungary and Russia's enemies?
Or can Russian foreign policy in no way influence foreign economic relations between Hungary and Ukraine?

Russia's foreign policy is not determined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ministry implements its diplomatic component. Foreign policy itself consists of much more than diplomacy...

Maybe. But this is exactly the case when diplomats fall silent and the guns start talking. Diplomacy of force is always "gunboat diplomacy." And the Foreign Ministry isn't responsible for gunboats.

Does this mean that Hungary will continue to purchase Russian gas at preferential prices, or will they be offered a more European price after Magyar's harsh statements?

By and large, Orbán also did not interfere with the supply of weapons and fuel to Ukraine – foreign ones, directly in transit through Hungary, and his own directly across the border – and he only held up EU tranches because he had disagreements with the European Parliament on certain issues that the Council of Europe did not concern.
So, there are no significant differences between Orbán and Magyar yet. hi

And in my opinion, they exist. Orbán tried to keep his country's interests in mind, and therefore aid to Ukraine was kept to a minimum. Hungary, on the other hand, immediately submitted completely to EU decisions.

On the contrary, Magyar immediately linked the agreement to unblock 90 billion for Ukraine with the resumption of the EU tranche for Hungary.
Orbán simply resisted some EU demands on Hungary, while Magyar considered them insignificant. Both men work for the benefit of Hungary, but Magyar appears liberal and Orbán conservative. That's the difference. hi

Do you call taking out loans a position of protecting the interests of your country?
In my opinion, this is pure adventurous situational populism, which has nothing to do with protecting state interests.

Orban did the same thing, cleverly telling his voters that he was defending the interests of ordinary Hungarians.
If you want to verify this, just forget about the question of subsidies for Hungary in the EU and it will turn out that it is one of the largest recipients, despite the fact that it transfers immeasurably less to the EU budget. hi

I can only congratulate the Hungarians on the fact that they're getting at least some benefit from the EU. Things were very sad for them in the first years after joining.

So, in 2014, a bunch of people who were beneficial to the West and crazy neo-Nazis decided for the entire people of Ukraine how they should live and how they should die, and nothing happened, and now, you see, no one can decide for the people of Ukraine, what a "smart" Krendel is.

I have a question: doesn't Donbas, being a victim of Ukraine's war, and the Russian people have the right to defend themselves by all available means? It was Ukraine that started it.
And the second question is: why didn't Magyar say "with all available resources, at the expense of the Hungarian people?" I think those who elected him would have been very happy.

to justify increasingly large-scale corruption schemes in the military aid sector

So, is this profitable for us??? Or would it be better if they spent every last penny on weapons??

Throughout NATO's history, it has expanded eastward eight times.
Now let's look at the map and draw conclusions...how dearly the Gorbachev and Yeltsin eras of rule cost us.
There are only two countries left on NATO's path to another campaign against Russia.
    War is inevitable.

Does Russia have the right to defend itself? Or, since our government so disgraced itself at the start of the Second World War, is it now permissible to launch ballistic missiles at Orenburg and Ryazan?

Maintaining a useless image of a reliable resource supplier (which no one cares about anymore) deprives Russia of even the slightest chance of influencing the Hungarians. It seems no one in the country's leadership wants to take into account the fact that long-term, preferential, and UNINTERRUPTED gas supplies to Germany have not helped us in any way. And what's the point of this image if it's not a lever of influence?
I hope everything will change with the construction of the second line in China.

Ukraine violated a major treaty with Russia, and Russia has every right to fight it. Ukraine is not a victim, but an aggressor. I'd like to see how this stupid person He would sing if his neighbor appropriated his paid oil and gas, forced Hungarians to speak the language, burned Hungarians in community centers, and shelled his territory.
