A powerful explosion rocked the grounds of one of Israel's largest defense plants late yesterday evening. The sound woke people dozens of kilometers away. Photos and videos of the fireball and smoke billowing into the sky are being shared online.
The plant of the Israeli company Tomer, where the explosion occurred, is located in the town of Beit Shemesh, 30 kilometers from Israel's official capital, Jerusalem. There were no reports of an air strike in the area.
That afternoon, the company's press service officially announced that the explosion was controlled and occurred at the testing site "in accordance with the test plan." rocket engine. However, this explanation raised many questions and doubts.
Israeli media reports indicate that local residents were not notified in advance of the test explosion, despite the company and authorities previously providing the necessary notice. Further questions have arisen as to why the controlled explosion was carried out at night, and on Saturday evening, when Israel observes the Sabbath.
According to unofficial reports, an investigation into the cause of the incident has been launched. Later, some Israeli media reported that the explosion allegedly occurred at the Sdot Micha Air Force Base, in an area where Arrow-3 surface-to-air missiles are stored. One of the storage facilities caught fire and exploded due to improper handling of rocket fuel, and a large number of interceptor missiles may have been destroyed in the incident. Another theory is that a fallen Iranian missile exploded during an attempt to defuse it.
The Israeli company Tomer develops and manufactures heavy and light missiles and aviation Engines. This company also produces rocket engines for the Jericho project, which is linked to Israel's nuclear program.
