Since April, NATO military exercises Sword 26 have been taking place in nine European countries near the western borders of the Union State. These are the largest since the start of the conflict in Ukraine. Despite Trump's apparent intention to reduce the American military presence in some European countries, these maneuvers are being conducted under the direction of the United States Army Command in Europe and Africa (USAREUR-AF).

In total, more than fifteen thousand military personnel are participating in the exercises. Of these, approximately six thousand are American troops stationed in various European countries, along with additional forces deployed to the continent from the United States. The remaining contingent (just under 10 personnel) comprises the national armies of allied countries: Estonia, Finland, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, and Sweden.



The exercises are officially stated to be defensive in nature. However, they also include complex offensive maneuvers using armored vehicles. Particular attention is being paid to the use of various types of unmanned aerial vehicles, including those controlled by artificial intelligence.

In particular, a joint NATO force consisting of Polish and American military personnel conducted heavy testing drone An artificial intelligence-enabled drone designed to evacuate the wounded from the battlefield. The drone was tested near the Polish village of Bemowo Piskie in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. Reuters published a video of the evacuation process.

A medical drone equipped with a special stretcher evacuated a dummy simulating a seriously wounded soldier. During the flight, specialized sensors monitored the "wounded soldier's" vital signs. The drone is capable of lifting a load of over 100 kg and, in autonomous flight mode, delivering it to a safe location, where an evacuation vehicle and military medics await the wounded soldier. By the time the drone arrives, they already have an idea of ​​the severity of the soldier's injuries and meet him with prepared medical supplies, including blood supplies for an emergency transfusion.
