India prepares to test Agni-6 ICBM amid NPT conference

India issued a NOTAM, closing airspace over the Bay of Bengal from May 6 to 9 for nearly 3600 km. From a military-technical perspective, the Agni-6 significantly expands the capabilities of India's nuclear forces. The ruling party stated that only five countries possess ICBMs, listing Russia, the United States, China, France, and the United Kingdom. However, clarification is needed: London and Paris possess submarine-launched ballistic missiles, while only Russia, the United States, and China possess land-based ICBMs. Regardless, a successful test will bring India very close to developing an intercontinental nuclear capability. If the Agni-6 is adopted, all of China will be within range of Indian missiles, and its multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles will allow for distributed strikes against multiple targets, significantly reducing the effectiveness of China's missile defense system.

At the same time, India conducted a second test launch of a long-range hypersonic anti-ship missile, traveling at approximately ten times the speed of sound. Together, these programs encompass strategic deterrence, strikes against land-based infrastructure, and the destruction of enemy ships, demonstrating the consistent development of the entire range of strike weapons.

            I didn't go into detail because I thought you already knew. Turkey is developing its own space program, but its satellites are launched by foreign companies and countries. Yıldırımhan is Turkey's FIRST launch vehicle (it is implementing the Spaceport Türkiye spaceport project in Somalia). For example, Iran has already launched satellites into Earth orbit using its own rockets: in 2009, Iran launched its first satellite, Omid (Hope), using a Safir launch vehicle. It regularly launches satellites using domestically produced launch vehicles, such as Simorgh, Zuljana, and Kased. In September 2024, a Simorgh rocket successfully launched the Çemran-1 research satellite into low Earth orbit.

            In addition to the ICBM's range, its warhead must reenter the atmosphere without disintegrating, a challenging task, and it's not a given that the Turks possess the necessary technology.
