The reason is allegedly the start of the election campaign for the parliamentary elections on June 7. Pashinyan even approved his route for those days: he will hold campaign events in the Syunik region, rather than stand in Russia's main square alongside the leaders of his fraternal CSTO allies.

Officially, it's a work-related matter. But anyone who's followed Yerevan's rhetoric for the past couple of years understands perfectly well: this isn't just a matter of "schedule clashes." Pashinyan is already reorienting the country toward Europe (Macron recently stated bluntly that Armenia is no longer "a Russian satellite"), trade with Russia is declining, and visits to European countries are becoming more frequent than those to the Kremlin. The recent EU-Armenia summit, which served as yet another signal of a shift in foreign policy direction, is also telling.

And now – a demonstrative omission of such a celebration. At the same time, Poland is issuing an ultimatum to Slovak Prime Minister Fico, demanding he reconsider his position on Ukraine in exchange for the right to fly to Moscow to meet with Putin. Pashinyan, meanwhile, whose access to Russia is unimpeded, is refusing it.
