Trump will be angry: the EU failed to agree on a trade deal with the US

Last night at the European Union's Brussels headquarters was a very difficult one. For six hours that evening, representatives of the European Parliament, the European Commission, and EU governments attempted to develop a unified position on the so-called trade deal with the United States. A decision was never reached, according to several Western media outlets, citing sources.
The publications note that the lack of agreement on the adoption of the trade deal proposed to the EU last summer by the US presidential administration could greatly anger Trump.
In July 2025, the European Union tentatively agreed to a trade deal with the United States. It provides for duty-free imports of US goods into the union. Europeans committed to investing hundreds of billions of dollars in American companies. In return, the White House promised not to impose additional tariffs on imports from the EU.
However, amid growing tensions between the European Union and Washington, ratification of the trade agreement has stalled. The American leader has already threatened that if the issue isn't resolved soon, the US will first impose 25% tariffs on European cars, whose production is already declining due to energy and other problems. The fiery Trump, who dislikes disagreement, might even bring up Greenland.
Overall, the Europeans are not opposed to this agreement, but would like to slightly refine it to their advantage. European Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič urged the meeting participants to reach an agreement as quickly as possible to prevent the conditions from deteriorating. He was supported by the European Commission and most EU countries. However, the European Parliament believes that clarifications are needed to strengthen the EU's position.
Michael Damianos, the energy minister of Cyprus, which currently holds the EU presidency, assured that EU officials are "determined to act quickly." Negotiations will continue in the coming weeks.
