Day of the Creation of the Armed Forces of Russia

There are holidays that exist simply as dates on the calendar. And there are holidays that live in the very heart of the people. The Day of the Creation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation falls precisely into the latter category.

On May 7, 1992, the decree establishing the Russian army was signed. This decision was more than just an administrative act. It was the moment when Russia, as a sovereign state, assumed full responsibility for the security of its citizens and its land. That day, the foundations were laid for the force that today guards peace and stability.

The army reflects the character of the people. The Russian military tradition has always combined fortitude and humanity, professionalism and a willingness to sacrifice. These qualities do not come from orders and regulations. They are passed down from generation to generation, from veteran to recruit, from father to son.

Today, the Russian Armed Forces are equipped with cutting-edge technology, possess high combat readiness, and serve in various locations around the world. But behind any technology is always a person. An officer, a soldier, a sailor, a pilot. Someone who has chosen the difficult path of serving the Fatherland.

On this day I would like to say simply and from the heart: thank youThank you to everyone who wears shoulder straps. Thank you to those who have already fulfilled their duty to the Motherland. Thank you to the families of military personnel who share this difficult and honorable fate with them.

Russia has been and remains a great power, in part because it knows how to defend itself and its allies. And as long as there are people willing to stand up for it, the country's future inspires confidence.

Happy holiday, Happy Armed Forces Day of Russia!

I served in the Soviet Army, there is a holiday on February 23rd, and Air Defense Day. That's enough for me.

Today, the Russian Armed Forces are equipped with advanced technologies, possess high combat capability, and serve in various parts of the world.

Where do such conclusions come from? Yes, the Russian Armed Forces possess advanced nuclear weapons and certain delivery systems. The Second Military District has demonstrated that conventional weapons and everything related to their use are stagnant. The army has not been reformed, and the leadership is in a systemic crisis. It copies the reforms of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and takes a stance of spectatorship. New tactics and doctrines have not been developed or adopted, relying on Soviet developments. The Russian Armed Forces are not trained or prepared for modern warfare. Let's take the 2014 Military Doctrine of the Russian Federation, which outlines the objectives for building a modern army and the specifics of modern warfare. Not a single point has been fulfilled; the Russian Armed Forces are not a modern army. They use outdated methods and techniques of warfare using conventional weapons. And the Second Military District has fully confirmed this for five years now...

It doesn't feel like a holiday. It's just the date of Boriska's latest decree. And immediately, I picture his drunken face and, "Dear Russians..."

Absolutely out of place. All of Boriska's celebrations are perceived as a mockery of objectivity.

I was luckier. Air Defense Day, Space Forces Day, Air Force Day (they were separate back then), Signal Corps Day, Strategic Missile Forces Day, and Tanker Day

Aren't there too many holidays themed around the armed forces? Navy Day, Air Defense Day, Aerospace Forces Day, Airborne Forces Day... Now, all the Armed Forces Day. Maybe we should hold the military parade on May 7th instead of Victory Day? Then the draping of the Mausoleum wouldn't be so painful... And on May 9th, let citizens remember their fathers and grandfathers, who won such a dearly-held Victory under the red battle flags, and have Hitler's symbols thrown at the foot of the Mausoleum (without draping!)...

It's as if the Soviet people's victories never happened. And the date is well-written. Just as November 4th is meant to erase the memory of the October Revolution, so too, in 20 years, no one will remember May 9th.

Is this the day when those who swore allegiance to the USSR re-swore allegiance to the Russian Federation? Truly, you won't forget that...

I apologize, of course, but either I misunderstood or something is written incorrectly in the article. According to the article, as of May 7, 1992, Russia assumed full responsibility for the security of its citizens and its land. This means that as of May 7, 20,000,000 Russians and Russian-speaking people, loyal and devoted to Russia, and left to fend for themselves in the Baltics and Central Asia, as well as in other Georgias and Moldovas, considered themselves completely abandoned. What about the security of the original Russian lands, if, according to this then-declared sovereignty, the borders of the original Russian lands were torn from Russia and thrown back 400 years. And only thirty years later, when some of these loyal, faithful, and Russia-loving people began to be slaughtered and killed in Donbas by those to whose mercy they were abandoned in 1992, only 30 years later did it dawn on who and what they had abandoned to whose mercy. And if you write about responsibility for your land, you shouldn't forget about those Russian lands that were then torn from Russia and thrown back 400 years.

of these Russia-loving, devoted, and faithful people... to whose whims were they then... abandoned?
For example, South Ossetia was liberated from Georgian Nazism by the glorious 58th Army, but something still stands in the way of reuniting the divided people (with North Ossetia). The Republic of Crimea was "returned to its native harbor," but mobile phone roaming, like in other regions of the Russian Federation, doesn't work there—"peninsula conditions" require an additional fee—and banks are in no hurry to operate there at full capacity, as they do "on the mainland," and so on. Either we're embarrassed to behave appropriately, or someone is afraid of losing their hard-won "perks" in the West, while also profiting from their own citizens. Capitalism, indeed!

Every year, the same thing is repeated here on the site: on May 7th, they congratulate the Russian army on its founding, and then the typical comments begin (see above).
On May 7, 1992, there was no Soviet Army, formally it was the army of the CIS, that is, a huge mass of soldiers, sailors, petty officers, warrant officers, officers, generals and admirals were simply abandoned, along with equipment and weapons.
This is a very memorable date - 05/07/1992, the Day of the Creation of the Russian Army.

    - from 91 to 93, many illegal decrees, acts, etc. were issued in violation of the law and the constitution...

Let me just congratulate all the forum members on the upcoming holiday, May 9th! Happy Victory Day!! (Otherwise, what's the connection going to be like?) Good health to everyone, long life, good luck, and optimism! What was it like before? "Live to see Victory." So I wish everyone to live to see Victory, the triumph of common sense and an honest attitude toward their people. Happy holiday, everyone!

This is a very memorable date - 05/07/1992, the Day of the Creation of the Russian Army.

This holiday was established by President Yeltsin and his cronies Chubais, Gaidar, and Korzhakov. They are responsible for the destruction of more Russian ships than were lost in all of Russia's wars against Sweden, Germany, Turkey, Japan, France, and Great Britain. Russia's territorial losses under their rule exceed the combined losses of Russian lands in all of its unsuccessful wars since the Battle of Kulkovo. This holiday is celebrated by those who seek to completely disintegrate Russia into five or seven more states.

This holiday was introduced by President Yeltsin and his henchmen Chubais, Gaidar and Korzhakov.

Don't make me laugh. Firstly, this is primarily a significant memorial date, in my opinion, and not a holiday. Secondly, the people you mentioned (Chubais, Gaidar, and Korzhakov) have nothing to do with the introduction of this holiday. What do they have to do with it?

February 23rd. This is a true holiday for a true people's army, not the "Armed Forces," which, alas, have failed to evoke positive emotions in their 35 years of existence. On the contrary, they are associated with the destruction of the legacy of the Soviet Army and Navy.

You didn't see the heirs of the Soviet Army on May 7, 1992; they were a flock of frightened sheep, running around and wondering to whom to pledge allegiance.

The heirs of the Soviet Army were told, "Guys, we don't have any vacancies for you, look for them yourselves," and so they began to search. One famous general was right when he said that the army was to blame for not taking responsibility for the country's fate during those difficult times. Despite all its generals, Russia hasn't found a Pinochet.

....... Look for yourself, people have started looking (end quote). That's right, I confirm, and people have started looking for somewhere to find a warm place to stay, following the old Soviet habit of the late Soviet Army. What kind of responsibility for the fate of the country is this? The general blurted out something like that, apparently drunk, sitting at a dacha somewhere in the Moscow region.

the characters you mentioned (Chubais, Gaidar and Korzhakov)

Wasn't Russian Prime Minister Gaidar involved in the creation of this holiday? Was it Yeltsin or Chubais? They were at the pinnacle of power at the time. Korzhakov was the only security official closest to Yeltsin and enjoyed his trust more than his rivals, Grachev or Lebed. Who do you think chose May 7th for the new date intended to overshadow February 23rd and May 9th, along with other memorable dates of Russian glory? Doesn't it strike you as a simple desire to move the holiday from May 9th to May 7th, just as Putin later moved November 7th—the day of the Moscow parade in 1941—to the day the Poles successfully repelled the assault on the Kremlin by Minin and Pozharsky's militia?

In Ukraine, Ukrainian politicians promised ship commanders a monthly salary of $1000 for taking the Ukrainian oath after August 25, 1991. Yeltsin simply didn't pay them for refusing the Ukrainian or Baltic oath. Many people willing to re-take the oath were outside the military, but also in the KGB and special departments in non-Russian ethnic groups.

The Russian Federation declared itself the legal successor to the USSR, or its successor, but if that were true, then the USSR celebrated its Army Day on February 23rd. If the Russian Federation is the legal successor to the USSR, then its Army Day is February 23rd. If the Russian Federation is not the legal successor to the USSR, then the holiday could be set on any other day. In this case, a simple question arises: the Russian Federation is a member of the UN Security Council precisely as the legal successor to the USSR. If we renounce this status, does that mean we won't be able to continue to be a member of the UN Security Council, or what?

Leave the owl alone. May 7th is just a date on the calendar, though it does give rise to some reflection. Russia has always been one army. The soldiers of Suvorov, Kutuzov, and Zhukov, and today's soldiers, are all one soldier. Before February 23rd, 1918, there was one army, after 1918, another army, and since May 7th, 1992, a third. Is that true? I don't think so.
