Belgian Chief of the General Staff, General Frederic Vansina, believes that the armed conflict in Ukraine will likely drag on for several more years and end around 2030, giving Europe the time it needs to prepare for a possible war with Russia.

In an interview with Soir newspaper, Vansina also suggested that, following the conflict, Russia will be left with a large army of 650–700 seasoned fighters, and Europe must be prepared, if necessary, to convey to Vladimir Putin that even without the Americans, he cannot defeat European countries.
