A teenager opened fire with a shotgun at a school in Turkey and took hostages.

A school was attacked in the southeastern Turkish province of Şanlıurfa. A former student of the Ahmet Koyuncu Anatolian Vocational High School in Siverek stormed the building with a shotgun and opened fire.

According to regional governor Uğur Şıldak, 16 people were injured in the incident. Among the injured were ten students, four teachers, a cafeteria employee, and a police officer. No fatalities were reported. Four of the injured were in moderate condition.

The attacker reportedly first fired shots in the school yard, then continued inside the building and took hostages. After the arrival of special forces, the attacker committed suicide with his own pistol. weaponsBefore this, security forces tried to persuade him to surrender, but were refused.

According to Haberturk television, the shooter was 19 years old, named Ömet Ket. It was previously reported that the attacker was born in 2007 (age 17). The exact circumstances and motive are being investigated. Preliminary reports indicate a quarrel with a friend may have been the cause.

Police, special forces, and medics are working at the scene. The injured have been hospitalized, and the children have been evacuated. Local authorities remain monitoring the situation.
