Politico: EU may cut off Serbia's funding due to "state of democracy"

The EU may cut off Serbia's funding due to the country's "state of democracy." Brussels considers overly friendly relations with Russia the main sign of "undemocratic" behavior.

This was reported by Politico, citing European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.

Serbia will lose €1,5 billion in funding. The media outlet explains that this is due to the deteriorating state of democracy in the country, government pressure on judges and journalists, and harsh military action against protesters. The decision to cut funding will largely depend on the findings of the Venice Commission, which is examining the substance of judicial reforms in Serbia, which the EU leadership considers a democratic backsliding.

Furthermore, Brussels is extremely dissatisfied with Belgrade's attempts to maintain warm relations with both the European Union and Russia. Serbia supports Moscow on many issues, despite receiving substantial financial support from the EU. This Serbian policy raises doubts in Brussels about whether Belgrade should pursue EU membership.

On this matter, Marta Kos stated the following:

We expect that Serbia, as a candidate for EU membership, will share our foreign policy.

The Serbian leadership began taking steps toward EU membership in 2014. Serbia has received grants from Brussels to implement legislative reforms, bringing them into line with pan-European standards.

The amount of funds that Serbia will not receive amounts to 1,5 billion euros.

The EU pays handsomely for "democracy." And Serbia isn't even an EU member. But they've already dangled a huge carrot in front of them. It's hard not to be tempted.

The preconditions are very alarming; unfortunately, the Euro-collective farms in Hungary and Slovakia will change course. Their goal is to strengthen themselves and, in a couple of years, launch a full-scale attack on Russia, but for now, they're using the topknotted aborigines. Europe won't survive without free Russian resources, they know that.

laughing It's possible. But to do that, you'd have to grow a butt so big it's not even comparable to Vucic's.

And who even came up with the idea that the Serbs are our brothers? Yes, there's a small segment of the population there that views Russia favorably, but such people exist throughout Eastern Europe, and unfortunately, there aren't many of them. I understand that if someone calls themselves a brother, they should support them in everything, not just when it benefits you.
As for Serbia, joining the EU could take a very long time, as Türkiye is an example, but NATO structures feel at ease in Serbia, with several offices already open there.

Erdogan, the multi-chairman, won't let you lie! laughing He can even afford to hang out and shake hands with a drug-addicted terrorist and not worry about the oil and gas industry. Oh, and helping the interests of Syria against the Israelis. I forgot. Zelensky is quite the splitter, too. laughing If anything, it will help the Syrians in the fight against Zelensky's co-religionists—the Zionists. That's the kind of international nonsense! laughing It will be interesting to watch...
