The US is urgently deploying Avenger short-range air defense systems to the Middle East.

The United States is urgently sending funds to the Middle East. Defense short-range missiles capable of combating Iranian dronesAlmost all AN/TWQ-1 Avenger air defense systems have reportedly been removed from MacDill Air Force Base in Florida.

While Trump in the White House is once again talking about the US “victory” over Iran, the American military in the Middle East is trying to fight Iranian drones, of which Tehran, for some reason, has a great many. Meanwhile, Iran, apparently unaware that it is "already defeated," continues to attack American military bases in the Gulf monarchies. And quite successfully.

The US was counting on a quick victory, so they didn't properly prepare for the war with Iran and are now reaping the consequences. They essentially started a war with one of the world's leading drone powers without having the means to counter them. They also ignored the experience of the war in Ukraine. And now they're running around like a rooster pecked in one place. They're wasting expensive anti-aircraft guns. missiles Cheap drones turned out to be too expensive. And there's nothing else to shoot down drones with.

So the Americans are clearing out their stockpiles of short-range air defense systems, like the AN/TWQ-1 Avenger. They used to foist them off on Ukraine, considering them obsolete, but now they're sending them to the Middle East because they have nothing else to shoot them down with.

"with Iranian drones, of which Tehran, for some reason, has a lot."

What's most interesting is that just a week into the war, Iran increased its drone and missile strike effectiveness by at least 60 percent. This suggests the arrival of foreign specialists from unknown countries in Iran.

Local personnel are also gaining real combat experience... if there is the desire and the means, talented performers will appear on their own if they are given the opportunity to develop their skills.

It's natural. Everyone learns, but not so quickly. Only professionals with a wealth of practical experience can dramatically increase efficiency. And that's definitely not the Chinese.

It doesn't matter how, the main thing is the result.
And so, purely from experience... if they don't conduct strict selection and weed out unsuitable personnel, then no matter how much you teach, it will be the same as always...

The SAM is a Stinger, meaning a range of 5 km. How many of these SAMs does it take to cover one airbase? And there's more than one there. But the Stinger missiles will now be used up like crazy. Considering how many Stingers were transferred to Banderland, I imagine they'll run out soon.

SAM - "Stinger", i.e., a range of 5 km. - how many of these SAMs are needed to cover one airbase?

This is the last echelon of defense of the skies above the air base - short-range air defense systems + small anti-aircraft missiles + electronic warfare systems.

What kind of medium-range air defense systems do they have? We won't mention the Patriot and the TAAD, they're all clear. The naval SM-3 and SM-6 are also in a very poor state.

A Björk-class destroyer in the Arabian desert, just like the submarine and the Banderland.

With the naval SM-3 and 6, everything is also very sad.

                Didn't you write this?

But now the Stinger missiles will be used up in droves.

And if you consider how effective these missiles are against piston-powered UAVs... And even externally, these air defense systems are such dross and wretchedness... And this is a hegemon with ambitions...
Now he's even starting a ground operation with some completely insignificant forces... And in London, Mitrivelli sits and quietly rejoices. Just like the inhabitants of the City of London.
The only thing that's worse is that the British embassy is sitting in Tehran and isn't even thinking about evacuating. That is, London is clearly working against the US and... Israel.
        And what about Israel?
And Israel sits in its basements/bunkers and... grumbles. But not at London. But at the US, which has become a hegemon to satisfy their desires.
        Logic?
        She .

      - Well, to what extent they are capable, that remains to be seen...

      What, actually, are the doubts?
The Avenger has an advanced FLIR (Full-Range Infrared) system, which perfectly detects small targets at any time of day. The FIM-92E missile is a serious asset: its dual-band (IR/UV) seeker operates on the negative contrast principle, so the small thermal signature of a "moped" is no problem.
The main advantage is its integration with the AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel radar. Target designation is transmitted automatically: the turret automatically rotates to the desired sector in azimuth and elevation before the operator even sees the drone on the monitor.

so the small thermal footprint of the "moped" is not a problem for her.

Is that true? I don't recall any pep talk about how 404 shoots down all the drones with super-duper stingers. Rather, it's the other way around: first comes the ceremonies of Überwaffe, which will change everything, and then the quiet betrayal that the weapon is, in fact, Überwaffe.

What does "Überwaffe" have to do with this? We're talking about a specific technical challenge. No system in the world offers 100% protection against a mass attack; the question is one of cost and interception probability.

Stingers fired by infantry against mopeds are indeed unstable: it's difficult for a human to spot a drone in time and hold it until the seeker locks on. But the Avenger paired with the AN/MPQ-64 is a different story.

The Stinger's seeker sensitivity depends on the ambient temperature. When it's -10°C outside, it sees better, and when it's +30°C, it's worse. On the BV, it's exactly +30°C and above.

Two technological solutions are important to consider here. First, cryogenic cooling: before launch, the Stinger's seeker is cooled with liquid argon. This dramatically increases the sensor's sensitivity, eliminating the difference between -10 and +30 degrees Celsius outside.
Secondly, dual-band logic plays a key role. While the target's thermal contrast in the IR band can be reduced by heated air, the UV channel operates on the principle of "negative contrast." The drone's body simply blocks the natural ultraviolet background of the sky. To the missile, this appears as a "black spot," unaffected by the engine or ambient air temperature.

All modern MANPADS have cooled seekers, but the environment still affects both reaction time and range.

I agree, it does. That's why they invented a dual-band seeker, to partially neutralize IR interference. But it still reduces both the range and the probability of hit, absolutely true!
But this only reduces the probability of defeat, and does not make interception impossible.

They can shoot down a Shahed, but the Geran-2M (and above) is doubtful. It's no match for ballistic missiles. The Americans are nervous, and Israel has quieted down its statements.
