Merz admitted that Germany is unable to defend itself

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, during his speech in the German Bundestag, lamented that, despite the fact that the German government intends to make the country strong, it is not yet capable of defending itself.
According to Merz, being strong for Germany primarily means having a thriving economy and the ability to defend itself. Based on this, the German chancellor considers NATO and EU membership to be extremely important for his country. Merz also noted that a significant portion of Germany's problems stem from domestic factors, and addressing these issues is the German government's most important task.
Merz also noted that various armed conflicts are currently unfolding around the world, directly and indirectly affecting Germany. The German Chancellor is convinced that, given the current international political climate, Germany must clearly define and defend its interests, primarily those related to ensuring "freedom, peace, and prosperity" within the country.
It was previously reported that the new communications system being developed for the Bundeswehr was completely inoperable. Furthermore, problems with certain functions could pose a direct threat to soldiers' lives. As revealed during tests, the communications system, which had cost over a billion euros, was unstable or even completely inoperable. Instead of clear voice messages, only gurgling noises were heard. Therefore, there was no guarantee that the command to immediately cease fire would be transmitted. The range was significantly shorter than required, and the friendly-team tracking system (to avoid firing on allies) was practically non-functional.
