Israel has launched a limited ground military operation against Hezbollah, sending troops into southern Lebanon. It has begun to suffer losses, as the pro-Iranian group's fighters show no signs of surrendering. Footage of the Israeli force's defeat has surfaced online. tank Merkava Mk IV with anti-tank guided missile missiles.
Hezbollah released footage of the use of an Iranian Almas anti-tank missile system in combat with units of the 91st HaGalil Territorial Division of the Northern Military District. The ATGM operator fired at an Israeli Merkava Mk IV tank, after which the footage progressed from the missile itself to the moment the tank was struck near the turret hatch. Unfortunately, the impact of the hit was not included in the video.
The Almas anti-tank missile system was accepted into service by the Iranian army in 2021. It is essentially an unlicensed copy of the Israeli Spike ATGM. The guided missile of the same name is housed in a cylindrical body with a diameter of 130 mm and a length of 1,1 m. The missile has a launch weight of up to 15 kg, and its homing head allows for a "fire and forget" operation. The missiles are equipped with a tandem HEAT warhead with a penetration capability of at least 600 mm of armor behind reactive armor.
It was previously reported that Israel had deployed troops to southern Lebanon to create a buffer zone. The Israeli military's plan was to push Hezbollah forces as far away from the border as possible, preventing them from launching attacks on northern Israel.
