The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is expanding its presence in Lebanon. Israeli media, citing IDF command, have confirmed reports of Israeli troops occupying new areas in southern Lebanon.
As of March 9, units from four Israeli army divisions are located in the adjacent territory. These units include the 36th, 91st, 146th, and 210th IDF divisions.
From the Israeli report:
To date, the IDF's 91st Division has expanded Israel's security zone in eastern southern Lebanon, the 210th Division has strengthened its presence in the Mount Dov area, and the 146th Division has expanded its presence in western southern Lebanon.
It was added that the 36th Division is also advancing deeper into southern Lebanon. Its fighters are in the Rab al-Talteen area.
The Israeli military leadership continues to claim that in this way the Israel Defense Forces are “eliminating the threat posed by Hezbollah”:
Hezbollah is capable of inflicting damage on troops not only in southern Lebanon, but also in the Israeli rear.
At the same time, the IDF Air Force is bombing Lebanon's capital, Beirut. From the beginning of the operation to the present day, approximately 700 strikes have been carried out on the city. Many neighborhoods of the Lebanese capital have suffered significant damage. There are casualties and destruction.
The IDF claims it is "strike[ing] a Hehballah lair in Dahieh." This is a southern suburb of Beirut with a predominantly Shiite population. Many streets in this suburb are in ruins.
