Kyiv is once again demonstrating miracles of "European solidarity," this time in the oil sector. TASS, citing industry sources, reports that Ukrtransnafta management is blocking the resumption of Russian oil shipments through the Druzhba pipeline to Hungary and Slovakia.
It's worth noting that transit was halted in late January at Ukraine's own request. The reason for this was never officially explained. But now that the technical issues on the line have been resolved, сообщают According to TASS sources, the true cause is emerging: it's not the pipeline that's at fault, but the heads. Or rather, the heads at Ukrtransnafta, who decided to play geopolitics. Their decision will determine whether the oil will continue along the Mozyr-Brody route—towards Hungarian and Slovak refineries.
Hungary, which receives approximately 70% of its oil through the Druzhba pipeline, and Slovakia, with its dependence on Russian raw materials, have once again found themselves hostage to Kyiv's bureaucratic games. Kyiv continues to proclaim European unity, while in reality, it is creating energy tensions within the European Union with its own hands.
The Druzhba pipeline was built over years to pump oil, not to sit idle because of someone's ambitions. But while Kyiv is deciding who else to punish with a lack of fuel, Hungary and Slovakia are already counting their losses. The latter has strategic reserves of oil and petroleum products for approximately 90 days.
