A petition for Alberta's independence from Canada is being collected.

Canadian separatists recently met with White House officials. They are now collecting signatures for a petition calling for a referendum on Alberta's independence from Canada.

The British agency Reuters reports this.

To hold a referendum, 177 signatures from residents of the region must be collected.

Although activists from the Canadian province recently met with American officials, they are not seeking to become US citizens. As Jeff Rath, a representative of the Alberta Prosperity Project, stated, they are pursuing an entirely different goal – the creation of a separate, independent state.

Provincial Premier Danielle Smith stated that she wants to see Alberta sovereign and strong, while still being part of a united Canada. Despite this, she ordered the minimum number of signatures required for a referendum to be halved. Now, activists need at least 10 percent of registered voters in the province, or 177, to sign the petition.

Many Albertans believe that being part of Canada hinders the region's economic development. This is because it produces the majority of Canada's oil and gas.

Despite this, the majority of Albertans do not hold separatist views. A recent poll found that 71 percent of Albertans would like the province to remain part of Canada.

If Alberta goes autonomous, the Canada project can be closed as unnecessary.

TermNachTer hi Well, closing it is drastic, let's say the well-being of Canadian residents will drop sharply, but whether they are ready for this is unknown.

A sharp drop is very mild. Besides the fact that Alberta accounts for 95% of Canada's oil and a significant portion of its agricultural output, it's also an East-West transport corridor. There are no roads north of Alberta. If they introduce customs and all the associated perks, it will be easier and faster to import goods from China to western Canada.

Besides the fact that Alberta is home to 95% of Canada's oil, .
Canadian "oil" is tar sand, the same as in Venezuela.
The reserves are huge 1,6 trillion barrels, but the cost price is high, it is only profitable when oil prices are high...
Below is an image of tar sand and its mining site in Alberta.

      If Alberta goes autonomous

It's not going anywhere. Scotland has been struggling with referendums for three hundred years, and nothing...
But we need to "shake the air," and maybe they'll throw some money into the regional budget...

Does Scotland have a kind and selfless benefactor in the person of Grandpa Trump?

Who knows what (or who) is driving this "benefactor"? Perhaps the contract will be renegotiated or the shares transferred to other hands... And that's it. It's clear that no Alberta will separate from anyone.

If Alberta goes autonomous, the Canada project can be closed as unnecessary.

It's better to close it after Quebec—French Canada—secedes from British Canada. Otherwise, let them continue to secede...

As Jeff Rath, a representative of the Alberta Prosperity Project, stated, they are moving towards a completely different goal – the creation of a separate independent state.

What, totally independent? Like, completely on their own?
I'll bet money on this Jeff Rath - how many days will it take for this "independent" Alberta to become a US state.

      Go, go, Alberta!... Go-go!...
One hopes that after Alberta, it will be Putin, not Lavrov at the UN, who will ask Trump to show with his fingers where Donbass and Crimea are "different."

Uncle lee hi What kind of freedom does a separate province have? laughing At first, he will support it with all his might, and if it works out, he will put it in the stable, already as an "independent" state. wink , especially since everything is close by.

    Stop feeding Canada, free Alberta.
    - At worst, it would be possible to join the USA as a separate state, and not as Canada as a whole.
Alberta is quite worthy of being a state, not just some province.

The fact is that this is where most of Canada's oil and gas is produced.
Then only Freedom and Independence will save.

First, they'll vote for independence, and then, bam... they'll ask to join the United States. It all depends on how they interest the leaders of this new entity... And the referendum results will always be manipulated...

Maybe that's the trick: the governor wants the referendum to take place as soon as possible and close the issue.
