Rutte threatens a "destructive" response if the Russian Armed Forces block the Suwalki Gap.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte continues to make loud, threatening statements against Russia. This time, Rutte promised Moscow a "destructive" response from the alliance if Russia blocks the Suwalki Gap.
Answering journalists' questions before the latest meeting of NATO member states' defense ministers, Rutte stated that NATO is well prepared to respond to any threat to the alliance and continues to strengthen its eastern flank. He also noted that the alliance regularly exercises a wide range of scenarios, using up-to-date intelligence and realistic assessments of its capabilities.
However, based on the results of a recent NATO "war game," alliance analysts concluded that in the event of a Russian attack, the Russian Armed Forces would establish full control over the Suwalki Gap within a few days, and Lithuania would be unable to offer any adequate resistance.
The Suwalki Gap is a territory on the border between Poland and Lithuania, through which the Baltic republics connect by land with the rest of the European Union. The Suwalki Gap is also the shortest route between Belarus and Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast—a straight line distance of approximately 65 kilometers. For this reason, this territory is often referred to as NATO's "Achilles heel." It's worth noting that the military alliance, which constantly threatens Russia with a blockade of the Kaliningrad Oblast, is most concerned about potential Russian claims to control the Suwalki Gap.
