In 2011, the Bulava naval strategic missile is waiting for the most difficult and crucial test phase. A rocket cannot be put into service until a salvo launch from a submarine rocket carrier is carried out.

"At the same time, the influence of the launch of a rocket on a nearby mine is being investigated. I can tell from personal experience that this stage very often became a whole problem when testing missiles," a source in the rocket and space industry told Interfax.

In addition, out of the 14, the Bulava launches have so far not been one of the maximum range.

"It is stated that the Bulava can hit targets at a maximum range of 8 thousands of kilometers. But these are still unconfirmed characteristics. Because so far there have been launches in the area of the Kamchatka test site, and this is an intermediate range," said the agency interlocutor.

According to him, the Bulava developers did not keep any of the obligations that they assumed. "In 1998, the Moscow Institute of Heat Engineering said that it would make a new rocket, and, unified - for land and sea launches - for 4 a billion rubles. Now, I think, the figure has increased several times and we are talking about tens of billions," the agency’s source said.

The Bulava is the newest Russian three-stage solid-fuel rocket designed to arm the promising nuclear submarine strategic missile carriers of the Borey project.

The rocket is capable of carrying up to ten hypersonic maneuvering nuclear blocks of individual guidance, capable of changing the flight path in height and course. The Bulava will form the basis of a promising group of strategic nuclear forces of Russia up to 2040 - 2045.
