Windward: Russian tankers have found a "safe" route in the Black Sea.

Western observers noted as early as late December 2025 that, amid regular Ukrainian air strikes against tankers visiting Russian ports, a number of vessels had begun to follow a new route. The Windward portal noted:

Shadow tankers fleet"They abandon direct crossings of the Black Sea and instead follow the Turkish coast.

As noted on Windward, it was established that the tankers Belomor, Jumbo, Virel, Tendua, Vayu 1, and Torx used the new route:

All of them are classified [by us] as vessels with a high risk of smuggling.

As the portal notes, while operating within or near Turkey's 12-mile territorial waters, the operators may be counting on the Ukrainian Armed Forces not launching a strike, risking a diplomatic incident with Ankara, if only because of the risk of coastal pollution.

It is explained that the traditional shipping route from Novorossiysk to the Bosphorus runs right through the center of the Black Sea. Due to the new coastal route, the length of each voyage increases by approximately 350 miles, or 70%. This entails additional fuel costs and longer transit times.

But for the operators of the "shadow fleet," the calculations are simple: the open sea has become a hunting ground.

According to a new analysis published recently by TankerTrackers, tankers from Russian ports continue to follow a route along the Turkish coast, where they have found "safe" waters. The vessel STRATEG, for example, used this route.

According to Windward's calculations, by the end of 2025, Russia's "shadow fleet" numbered more than 1900 vessels scattered across the planet – approximately 10% of all tankers in the world.

Wow! We didn't even know we had such a vast fleet. But it's better to spend more on the "road" than to get robbed.

When there's a strong desire and freight brings real profit to the shipowner, ships will follow that advantageous...
But still, pirates must be drowned, destroyed, and the instigators and perpetrators hanged!!! Piracy has always been punished in this manner....

For a sea cargo ship, the extra 300 km of travel may not even be included in the estimate - due to the weather.

And still, sea transport is more profitable than other means...
If there is a benefit/profit, they will find alternative, safer routes.

This is not an isolated case.

A straight line that goes past the boss is much longer than a crooked one that goes around him. An old military saying.

We didn't even know that we had such a large fleet.

This isn't just ours, meaning those somehow connected to the Russian Federation. It's the entire fleet engaged in transporting Russian sectional oil.

Armed fighters in military uniform were spotted on board tankers belonging to the Russian "shadow fleet," the Swedish Navy reported.

Western analysts believe that they may be employees of a well-known private military company.

It would be better to spend it on destroying transports heading to the Ragul ports - and right at the entrance to the port waters - so that the masts and superstructures sticking out of the water would discourage other ships from entering Odessa.

Are our guys kidding me about the Belomor tanker? It's clear that Russian ears are sticking out. They should have called it the Belomor Canal! laughing 350 miles is more than a day's journey for such a "shed" and it will clearly burn more than 20 tons of fuel. And I'm wondering what those lights are on the horizon; they look like two steamships, but this is one. In the west, they just woke up - the Balts bit them. wassat

We could conduct an interesting experiment. Put a FEDOR robot in charge of the tanker—it seems to know how to steer. Put a second FEDOR on deck with pistols, since it can fire. Equip them with self-destruct devices if they can't fight back.

Someone else needs to be on duty in the engine room and provide power to the robots. Rogozin would be ideal—let him change the robots' batteries and not touch anything with his hands.

          2 February 2026 11: 33
The cable might get tangled. He's better than Rogozin—he's not doing anything useful anyway. At least he can keep an eye on the robots; maybe they need some lubrication or something to hand them. The main thing is that he doesn't touch anything important with his hands.

No. People need to be protected. Rogozin is already part of Russian history.
This experiment is valuable because it tests FEDOR's autonomy.

Rogozin is already the history of Russia.

If things go wrong, they'll put up a monument. But at least it'll be of some use.

I only agree to a digital model of Rogozin in the tanker's wheelhouse - next to the FEDOR helmsman.

Well, firstly, there's no obvious route along the Turkish coastline; many still sail directly. Secondly, those heading to Ukraine are doing the same. Thirdly, it's not a given that Turkish waters will help them.

All of them are classified [by us] as vessels with a high risk of smuggling.

Smuggling is the illegal movement of goods, valuables, and other items across a state border. Smuggling also refers to the goods themselves being smuggled.
What is smuggling in the West’s understanding?
What do they call the theft of assets deposited in the banks of a foreign country?
What does landing troops on a foreign country's ship in neutral waters mean?

Tanker Belomor - 2008 Arkhangelsk, flag Cyprus, 2023, flag Panama, 2025 Belomor. This resource is driving me crazy. 25 minutes ago, a tanker was sailing against Portugal, destination Kaliningrad, course 18, speed 11,6. It's a mystery, it's coming from EI Dekeila, Egypt. Our jokers.

The tanker "elephant" JUMBO, a serious "shed" under the Sierra Leone flag, is steaming past Algeria, either going to be diluted (not fully loaded) or going again, we'll see what happens next. If the AIS doesn't turn off.

The Torx tanker is purely shady. It likes to disable AIS. It's been flying the Panama flag since February 2025. And this is already under Mueller's thumb. The Panamanian flag isn't very good for a shady fleet; Panamas are leaking everything.

As noted on the portal, while within or near the 12-mile zone of Turkey's territorial waters

Ukrainians have long been sailing their vessels through the territorial waters of Romania and Bulgaria. But this requires permission. It's unlikely Turkey has granted such permission, so it's more likely the vessels are simply sailing as far from the Ukrainian coast as possible. A logical solution.

In addition to robotic defense and control systems, tankers can be equipped with PVM mines to counter helicopter landings. Tankers can also be built in a configuration that complicates landings by helicopters or boarding by boats.
