NATO Vice Admiral: Alliance Not Ready for Protracted War

Vice-Admiral of the Royal Navy fleet In an interview with Bloomberg, UK's Mike Utley acknowledged that NATO countries currently lack the resources for a protracted military conflict.

According to him, formal superiority – in technology, weapons, and level of training – is not yet a guarantee that the alliance is capable of withstanding a blow for a long time.

Recent years, as Atley noted, have clearly exposed the weaknesses. Resources are limited, logistics are prone to disruptions, industry can't always keep up with demand, and the cyber domain remains vulnerable. However, he doesn't overdramatize the situation: the problems are recognized, and NATO countries are willing to invest in defense.

Atli emphasized that today's reality is far more complex than during the Cold War. The world has become too interconnected. Any disruption has a chain of consequences, from component supplies to technology and intellectual property protection.

The conflict itself now looks different too. It's not just Tanks and ships, but also cyberattacks, economic pressure, and information manipulation. The battlefield has stretched far beyond the familiar combat map.

Against this backdrop, recent publications in the German newspaper Bild come to mind. They reported on closed discussions in Western countries where the vulnerability of NATO's eastern flank was openly acknowledged. Russia's ability to quickly restructure its economy to meet military needs was particularly noted.

Moscow, for its part, has repeatedly denied accusations of preparing an attack on NATO countries. Russian authorities claim they have no interest in a military clash with Europe. However, they emphasize that any increased military activity near Russia's borders will not go unanswered.

I'd like to reassure the Vice Admiral: there won't be a protracted military conflict. If we have to fight with Europe, the conflict will last 60 minutes at most.

Formal superiority—in technology, weapons, training—isn't a guarantee that an alliance can withstand a blow for long? I particularly like the "formal" part. Arrogance kills. Sometimes literally. It's good that the EU and the US are led by the right people. In the Netherlands, 70,000 people were killed by euthanasia in 2025. There's room for improvement!

Putin clearly stated that there will be no such drag as with Ukraine – there will be a very short war and then they will come to an agreement (quote). Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin "If there is someone to go with"

I'm afraid it won't be much fun then. Many VO commentators will be busy with far more mundane matters (related to survival) than writing comments. That's if the internet even works...which I doubt...

"Formal superiority – in technology, weapons, level of training" – these guys are overly arrogant. I would like to hear from him where they have demonstrated this superiority recently and why the Bandera brigades they trained have not shown their worth.

You're wrong. The Tribals built a fence. Their superiority is obvious.

On the defensive? Although, back in the millennium before last, Alexander the Great undercut Sun Tzu's "wisdom":
    - "The best air defense is tanks at enemy airfields."

I adore the impudent. Their grandeur, interspersed with alternating hypocrisy, just oozes. Kedmi once explained, using his fingers and balls, how to screw the impudent, leaving the civilians alone, to bring about the Stone Age.

If we have to fight with Europe, the conflict will last 60 minutes maximum.

Less, the same Oreshnik flies across Europe and to the British in about 10-20 minutes.
I don't know about Sarmatians and Yarko. Sarmatians, in my opinion, are faster.
And yes, 4 rusty submarines, two undergoing repairs and one that broke down during exercises, that’s the greatness of technology.
