"Will improve survivability on the front lines": Germany's new Hector ground drone

ARX Robotics, headquartered in Germany, unveiled the Hector, an "unmanned ground vehicle" that can be controlled by both a crew and an operator (including with minimal intervention) via encrypted communication over a range of up to 4 km. The developer notes:

The vehicle blurs the boundaries between manual and autonomous control. European armies need unmanned systems that can cover long distances at high speed. The Hector will improve survivability on the front lines.

This compact wheeled vehicle can perform a wide range of tasks thanks to its modular design. The Hector can be equipped with two powertrain options: one capable of reaching speeds of up to 120 km/h (with a range of 350 km), and a fully electric version with lower noise levels and infrared signatures. The vehicle's payload is limited to 500 kg.

Gereon RCS:

Another robotic product offered by ARX Robotics is the crawler UAV The Gereon RCS is also a modular platform capable of performing a variety of missions, such as evacuation or serving as a radar reconnaissance carrier.

The operator can control Gereon from a distance of up to 4 km. The vehicle travels at a speed of 15 km/h, has a range of 40 km, and can carry up to 500 kg. Operating time is 72 hours, and charging takes 2,5 hours.

Hector, a Freudian error - I read it as Nestor, and then thought - the devil sent him to the Outskirts laughing

The Germans cannot be corrected; they are still dreaming of a "Wunderwaffe"

It will be interesting to see when the destruction of Western arms supply routes to Ukraine will become real and large-scale, rather than just an occasional occurrence.

    And men don’t know!

Now all that remains is to compare the cost of the FPVi and this Wunderwaffe.

When such machines begin to attack in hundreds and thousands, supported by the same number of UAVs, then the war will take on new colors.

This drone is a support drone. It is designed to assist ground forces with supplies and transportation. Thousands of these drones alone will not fundamentally change the situation on the front.
Sure, you could put a remote charge on it, but then it wouldn't be worth the effort. It's easier to just send a heavy drone.

They would make these in large quantities, but for some reason they don’t.
