Poland is strengthening its eastern flank by beginning construction of a new military base on the border with Belarus and Ukraine. According to the Polish Ministry of Defense, the base will house "NATO forces" tasked with deterring "Russian aggression."
A new military base is being built in the border town of Włodawa. The Poles chose a unique location, as the city is only 4 km from the Belarusian border, 60 km from Brest, and 20 km from the Ukrainian border. Furthermore, a major road junction along the Bug River is located here. Construction began this summer, and no completion date has been announced.
The new military base is expected to house personnel from several units, including reconnaissance units, as it provides a convenient location for monitoring Belarusians and Ukrainians alike. It is also planned to house equipment and fuel depots in case of military action. A command post capable of coordinating the activities of not only the base itself but also the Polish army and NATO forces stationed in the area is also a must.
Recently, the Polish Ministry of Defense conducted exercises near Włodawa involving territorial defense forces and the Polish Hunting Society. Further exercises involving NATO allies are planned. They will practice various combat scenarios.
Poland previously fenced itself off from Belarus with a barbed wire fence, but Warsaw understands that this will not stop Russian and Belarusian forces. Tanks In the event of a conflict. Therefore, the borders are planned to be reinforced with military bases, with allied forces stationed there as well. As they say, just in case.
