Show aerobatic team "Golden Eagles"

30
"Golden Eagles" - aerobatic team of the Russian Air Force. The group flies on six attack helicopters Mi-28N. The squadron was founded on April 12, 1989 as part of the 344th Center for Combat Use and Retraining of Army Flight Personnel aviation in the city of Torzhok, then they flew on the Mi-24.

"Golden Eagles" is one of the few helicopter groups in the world, which demonstrates figures of higher and medium complexity both in vertical and horizontal planes at extremely low altitude, on combat helicopters Mi-24 (now Mi-28Н), which in normal time is used to improve the flying skills of the officers of the center, as well as on the use of weapons at the site. The participation of pilots of the Berkut aerobatic team has become traditional at the aerospace show in Zhukovsky, at the aviation festivals of Moscow, Vladimir, Tula, Samara, Syzran. True on the new helicopters, they were here for the first time.

In 1979, the Center for Combat Use and Retraining of Army Aviation Crews was created in Torzhok, in which pilots of the highest category are trained and subsequently given the qualifications of “pilot-sniper” and “navigator-sniper”. So, in 1989, on the basis of this Center, the Berkuty aerobatic helicopter group was created. The organizer of the group was Hero of the Russian Federation, Honored Military Pilot, Major General Boris Vorobyov.

At first the group consisted of three pilots who began training flights. Later the composition was replenished.
The first aerobatic team included Colonels Alexander Rudykh and Alexander Chichkin, Lieutenant Colonel Vladimir Kalish, Captains Alexander Bardakov and Nikolay Spichkin. The group expanded, the pilots came in love with their profession: Lieutenant Colonel Sergey Zoletev, Alexander Novochenko. The flights in the group were performed by Major V. Tsymbalov, Captain A. Anikin, Major M. Iluykin, Major A. Egorov, and Major S. Yaborov.
So, 10 on April 1992 of the year, the group performed the first demonstration flights at the Kubinka airfield, at an aerospace festival in honor of Cosmonautics Day. Later "Golden Eagles" began to train in the six Mi-24. Recognition of skill "Berkuty" received in the air parade over Poklonnaya Hill in honor of the 50 anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War (1995).

The peculiarity of the group is that, unlike many of its colleagues, the Berkuts also showed elements of combat training, for example, the actions of a group of helicopters to cover the landing of a tactical air assault force, blocking the area of search and rescue operations, group air combat of helicopters and much more.

Since the founding of the aerobatic team to the present day, the work of its participants, pilots of the Center for Combat Use and Retraining of the flight personnel of army aviation, is based on its own enthusiasm. Participation in air shows, shows, celebrations does not bring any profit to Berkuts. This is another feature that distinguishes the Russian helicopter flight team from foreign colleagues.

In July, the 2012 aerobatic team of the Russian Air Force "Berkuty", moved to the new Mi-28H "Night Hunter" helicopters, and will now promote this car in international markets, showing the flight capabilities of the machine.
12 April 2013, the Berkut aerobatic team will be 24 years old. Over the years, four flight crews have changed. The Torzhok center and group survived the difficult economic period of the 90s. The group’s pilots, together with the helicopters of the Torzhok Center, participated in the group overflight of the Red Square in 2010.

There are six Mi-28H helicopters in the group. The machines of the Torzhok center, Andrei Mikhailidi, Sergey Bakin, Dmitry Menyaylo, Igor Butenko, the participant of the first flights of the group Sergey Zolotov and the second pilot at the beginning of 90-s Alexander Zolin now show the highest skill on these machines.

In 1990, at the Bora airbase began and история the Berkut direct competitors from Czechoslovakia - the aerobatic team on four Mi-24, later known as “Hinds”. But the collapse of the state led to the collapse of the group. However, after 1993, Hinds was revived in the Czech Air Force, but was soon disbanded.

To date, there is one aerobatic team, serving, as previously "Golden Eagles", on serial combat helicopters Mi-24. This is the Polish aerobatic team Scorpio, formed in 1999 year. And on the Mi-28H no one else and nothing shows !!! :-)))

At the 100 anniversary of the Air Force, the first demonstration of the Mi-28H flight capabilities by the Berkuts was held. The pilots of this group showed a very difficult flight program, individual and group aerobatics. And this show played a positive role: several countries have already returned the Mi-28 to the shortlist of bidders, from where these cars were excluded after failing to tender in India in 2011.

Due to technical problems with the main rotor and armament on the Indian tender in 2011, the American AH-64D Longbow Apache helicopter bypassed the Russian Mi-28H. In total, from 2008 to 2012 a year, three Night Hunters crashed due to equipment failure.

The main problem of the Mi-28 before the design change in 2011 was the main gearbox, which rotates the main screw. When working for more than two hours, it overheated, which caused the screw to stop. In addition, according to the military, the designers of the Rostvertol, which manufactures the helicopter, have not been able to debug the work of all the onboard electronic systems for a long time.

Almost everyone is backlit and again they will kick me for the same photos, but for me they are all different: - (((

The Mi-28H "Night Hunter" is usually compared to the American rival, AN-64 Apache. These are very close cars. Even outwardly, they are similar. Both the Mi-28H and Apache are single-rotor, carry a non-retractable undercarriage, a pair of engines on the sides of the fuselage, X-shaped tail rods on the tail.

1. Main and tail rotors
A screw with a diameter of 17,2 m withstands hitting 30-mm projectiles. In comparison with its predecessor Mi-28А, the “Hunter” propeller has arrow-shaped tips and a more advanced gearbox, which transfers more power to it from the engines, providing a higher flight speed.
It is believed that the Hunter's 5-blade propeller is more efficient than the Apache's 4-blade propeller, which is especially noticeable at low speeds and allows the helicopter to perform aerobatic maneuvers, including the dead loop, immelman and barrel.
The tail rotor is located in the tail. It is 4-bladed, formed by a pair of 2-bladed fiberglass screws. Blade angles reduce noise.
Be closer

2. Power point
Mi-28H is heavier than Apache almost on 3 tons, but more powerful engines compensate for this with interest. The ratio of power to take-off weight is better. Gas turbine engines with 2200 horsepower. provide maximum flight speed in 324 km / h and cruising - in 265 km / h. Compare: Apache has a maximum - 365 km / h, but cruising - exactly the same 265 km / h.

Fuel is poured into soft tanks with a total capacity of 1900 l with a latex self-retracting tread. This is enough for practical range in 460 km, and when installing additional tanks for the haul - up to 1100 km.
Only four helicopters got into the frame

At the top of the fuselage, behind the main rotor there is an auxiliary power unit with a separate engine for driving the systems and starting the main power unit. Mi-28H able to fly normally and with the complete failure of one of the engines.
Here is their formation

3. Cockpit
The crew - 2 man landing tandem. Weapons control systems are installed in the cockpit of the navigator-operator, and in flight - in the cockpit of the pilot. Behind the cockpit is a technical compartment, where you can (if necessary) place more 2 people. It is also important that Apache has a larger glazing area. In addition, its glass is slightly convex, which reduces the appearance of glare that interferes with the work with onboard devices.

The cabins are protected by lightweight armor with ceramic outer tiles, separated by an armored partition. Armored frontal glazing withstands hit of 12,7-mm bullets, side - 7,62 mm.
Right above us

In general, with booking at Mi-28H the situation is much better than that of the American colleague. On both helicopters, the constructive principle “less important units cover with more important ones” is applied, but the “Hunter” can boast of the armored protection of critical elements. Boards withstand it from an 20-mm machine gun. There is also another passive protection: setting up a smoke screen, elements for detecting and reflecting a laser beam, IR reflectors.

Energy absorbing chairs provide crew rescue at low altitude, and at high altitude you can use parachutes. If a catastrophe happens at an altitude greater than 100 m, something amazing happens with the “Hunter”: the rescue system takes effect. The blades of the main rotor, wings and doors of the cabins are shot back (on the right of the pilot, on the navigator-operator - on the left). The safety belts (also automatically) are cut, and ladders inflate on the sides of the fuselage, making it easier to leave the car.
Divergence of a group of four helicopters

At low altitudes, everything happens exactly the opposite. The belts are attracted even more, reliably fixing people in the energy-absorbing Pamir-K armchairs. The helicopter crashes, but the damping system dampens the overload from 50-60 g to completely safe 15-17 g.

4. Tricycle landing gear
Non-retractable landing gear. The lack of mechanisms for folding the chassis saved the helicopter weight. The front wheels are equipped with shock absorbers that reduce the overload from hitting the ground. Together with other energy absorbing structural elements, they are able to reduce the impact of a fall at a speed of 12 m / s to a “physiologically acceptable” level.
All six sides in the background of the liner taking off or setting in Domodedovo.

5. Radar "Crossbow"
Modern airborne radar makes Mi-28H weapons the most modern level, allowing you to perform combat missions at any time of the day (even in the absence of starlight) and in all weather conditions, at extremely low altitudes (5-15 m), automatically skirting the terrain. For example, a lonely person she makes out from half a kilometer.
And without him

"Crossbow" provides detection, measurement of coordinates and recognition of moving ground, surface and air targets, is mapping the flight route. The on-board radar is hidden beneath the hubbone fairing of the main rotor, which gives the crew another advantage. To observe the enemy from the folds of the terrain, you can not even lean out, just stick out the "crown" from behind the cover. Apache radar is located in the same way, only the fairing looks more oblate. It was she who gives the second name to his latest modifications - Longbow, "long bow".
Rebuilding

Combined stabilized surveillance and sighting system with optical, thermal, television and laser observation channels. Allows you to observe and provides guidance to the target of guided missiles and guns.
One helicopter periodically broke the line, why is it unclear

The computer, which contains data on the terrain in the combat area, automatically generates a three-dimensional image of the area where the helicopter is currently located. Information can be updated through inertial and satellite navigation systems, navigation system through the physical fields of the Earth. All of them are integrated with helmet-mounted targeting and display systems and multifunctional LCD displays (3 in each cab).
Maybe he just started earlier maneuver

So, bringing together the data of cartography, thermal imagers and radar, the computer conveniently displays on the crew screens an image of the current situation (in fact, there are a lot of computers on the Hunter - 3 is only basic, not counting the auxiliary ones). In parallel, with different channels information is fed into the automatic target recognition system. Information on target designation can also come from external sources.

Wing small elongation (4,9 m). Unloads the main screw and serves for fastening weapons, additional fuel tanks, other equipment. For this purpose, each wing has a 4 suspension unit and a container at the end.

I like this photo the most

Modified 30mm tank 2A42 gun on a fixed movable cannon mount (NPPU) 28N. NPPU with an electric drive allows the gun to turn in the horizontal plane 110 degrees, vertically 13 up and 40 down.

Right dragonflies in the summer sky, and it seems that now a swallow will flash and someone will eat ... :-)))

Ammunition 250 shells, and they are completely unified with the usual gun of the ground forces. The type of projectile (armor-piercing or high-explosive fragmentation) can be changed directly during the battle.

Are leaving

The mass and initial velocity of the projectile is higher than that of the Apache M230 Chain Gun. But shooting accuracy leaves much to be desired. A heavy cannon mounted in the nose, far from the center of mass, creates a greater return, reducing the accuracy of work, especially at large angles of rotation.

Virage group

Suspended arms
Here the variety is quite wide. This may be anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM). And besides - the mass of other "equipment".

• Prior to the 16 ATGM of the Ataka-V system. Ultrasonic high-precision ATGMs (descendants of the well-known Sturm system) are aimed at the target by radio, which in some cases (for example, in smoke or fog conditions) is much more effective than laser guidance. They are able to hit tanks with dynamic protection.
• Up to 8 Igla-B air-to-air guided missiles. These supersonic missiles are designed to defend against helicopters and enemy aircraft and operate in the "fired - and forgot" mode.

• The same purpose serves up to 4 unmanaged airborne missile (NAR) units: up to 128 NAR caliber 57 mm, 80 NAR caliber 80 mm, or 20 NAR caliber 122 mm. This is the ideal means for "finishing off" the enemy after very expensive and high-precision guided missiles have disabled his air defenses. Cheap and numerous NARs finish the job, shooting ground structures, warehouses, hangars, manpower and so on.
• Up to 2 cannon containers with 23-mm double-barreled gun GSH-23L. Unlike the main one, these cannons are fixed motionless, and for aimed fire one of them will have to deploy the entire helicopter.

Full face

• Up to 2 universal containers of small cargo - for example, with equipment for setting minefields.
• Bombs for 250 and 500 kg.

Both members of the long-range helicopter crew peer hard at colleagues.

This couple walked very closely

Behind them three more boards

Here is a group

Though kill, but I like Kamov helicopters much more. Many thanks for the article and photo, but I think that Apache is still better than MI-28, because it has been brought to mind, and armament with electronics is better, and even our radars are not even on our radar. There are no problems with the KA-52, but MI-28 just have time to change something, the logical question arises as to how MI-28 began to be purchased, but abandoned the KA-50, which also passed the tests. Apparently they unfastened quite a few.

Of course, raw, when the helicopter will be adopted, and will not be purchased, what else will it be? Only you have forgotten the fact that it’s raw because you drove into a single-seat KA-50 because of Milyov’s lobbyism, which proved itself to be excellent and was tested in real battles instead of MI-28. I watched a video with reports of pilots who flew on the KA-50, all of them praised this helicopter, unlike the MI-28, which many swear at.

And here is a lie, for this there is an autopilot in the KA-50, the KA-50 pilots said that everything was done there perfectly and that 1 could handle everything. Lobbyism is everything. Look in the search engine forum for helicopter pilots, read everything there in more detail, I did not have a link unfortunately.

Dear Whitlty, on the whole, I agree with you, it's not even about launches, but about how far the assault rifle recognizes the target, how much time the pilot will have to make a decision-launch-perform an evasion maneuver, and the operation of television systems significantly depends on extraneous factors; lighting , dustiness, smoke of the target. (here the supporters of the Ka-50 usually draw the question with external target designation by the ears, which, in principle, is a step back) In short, the main plus of the Mi-28 is the presence of an on-board radar that provides search and recognition of a target at a much greater distance than any TV, OLS complex. Opponents will immediately recall the Ka-52, but what kind of protection does it provide to the crew? In fact, this helicopter can be destroyed by a submachine gunner - the hinged panels of the lantern are not armored (by the way, in the mountains it is quite possible, in the second Chechen one Su was lost. -25). But the main enemy in the "big" war will be MANPADS and ZK with Oerlikons-30mm (remember the remote detonation of a burst of these guns).

Well, who told you that the Ka-50 showed itself well, drop everything you read, hear, turn on your own head. It was after the work of the Experimental Testing Group in Chechnya that the decision was made to serialize the DOUBLE KAMOV helicopter and Mi-28. the fact of the matter is that it costs and works, it’s true to the full extent (until they reach the overhead module), but they are moving actively in this direction.

Just two questions, dear Sergey Vladimirovich:
            1. Why then (if the Mi-28 is so perfect) the Mil design bureau somehow didn't want to test its brainchild in combat conditions? (the appeal to the "Crocodile" is not accepted a priori, because he and the Mi-28 are different machines!)
            2. When will active movements in "that" direction give a practical, and most importantly, a working result that can be launched into a series? (it is clear that this is the fault of the avionics developer, not the Mil design bureau, but when?)

And a short note on the development of the Ka-52. It was launched even before the use of the BUG, which consisted of the Ka-50 in Chechnya. And the experimental sample of the Ka-52 flew in 1997. After the operation of the BUG in Chechnya, work on the Ka-52 was intensified. But not because they immediately "molded" the main shock turntable out of it, but because they made a replacement for the Ka-29VPNTSU (ie, a purely command vehicle!), Since the latter was not suitable for the role of the All-Union Communist Party in terms of speed and maneuverability. But the decision to adopt the Alligator as an exclusively attack helicopter was made a little later ... wink

Flattered, flattered, very flattered dear Chicot 1. In essence of the first question, it was not me, not any of the commentators who claimed that the 28th is more perfect, let's be objective. And by the way, who demanded such a run-in of the MO? No, it was a desire specifically Viktor Sergeevich, the desire to prove something, to convince someone. As a result, apart from hemorrhoids for the command, forced to tear off the boards from work to cover the JIU, there is nothing special. Why the Milevites go mad with fat. The machine is innovative but not "revolutionary" The second question, just not correct, we will not even get dirty. Regarding the comments, perhaps you did not understand something, I will repeat the decision to finance the serial production of the Ka-52 was made taking into account the results of the work of the JIU, the Ka-52 is not the Ka-50. I recommend referring to the order of the commander-in-chief on the adoption of the Ka-52 attack helicopter. By the way, all this nonsense about the command vehicles among the warriors does not cause anything except irritation.

Well, not so kind and dear Sergey Vladimirovich ... wink

Mi-28 fans call it "more perfect". So all the claims (for the sake of objectivity!) Are against them, not me ...
Perhaps no one demanded a run-in. But any normal designer probably wants to see his brainchild "in action". Otherwise, it is bad as a constructor ... Or am I mistaken? .. And if such an opportunity presents itself, then they do it. This is a normal practice when creating new types of weapons, and not what you called "mad with fat" ... Naturally, this requires certain costs. Including the distraction of personnel and military equipment ... And your whole speech does not give a concrete and comprehensive answer to the question - why is the design bureau named after. Mil did not send the Mi-28 to Chechnya? .. Didn't you want to risk it? .. Were you afraid? .. Or? ..
With regards to the "revolutionary character" of the Ka-50 ... And he is revolutionary. Has anyone and somewhere before him built a coaxial drum turntable, and even one-seater? .. No. Alas, the Mi-28 (for all its real merits) does not fall into this niche in any way. Its closest analogue (AN-64) has already taken place ...
And regarding what you called "all this nonsense" I can only advise one thing - take a closer look at the history of the creation of the Ka-52. And one more thing - leave the remark about the "annoyance of the warriors" with you ...

And I didn’t get an answer to my second question (about the over-the-beam radar antenna) ... Apparently, there’s nothing to say ...

And Serdyuk with a harem wanted such eagles from Torzhok where there is at least some kind of infrastructure to drive into unequipped ruins.

But the Knights and Swifts from Kubinka, wanted to send to Voronezh, almost broke up the groups, wise ... to!

Lobbyism is everything. Look in the search engine forum for helicopter pilots, read everything there in more detail, I did not have a link unfortunately.
Where can you get such links from? Helicopter pilots, unlike you, are professionals, not amateurs, and they are well aware why the coaxial scheme in the helicopter world is not popular, there are few enemies on our own.
And more about lobbyism, while the Milevskoye Design Bureau in the 90s ensured the survival of the helicopter industry as a whole, the Kamovtsas took refuge in Russian helicopters and now they completely shoved the KA-52, which was absolutely unnecessary for the air force, didn’t have much money, but 70% of the R&D finance at the same time, projects were sent to Kamov, Mi-34, Mi-54, modernization of the Mi-26, and much more. In the USSR it was clearly defined who and what was doing. And they concentrated their finances on breakthrough projects, and now we have NOTHING. So it turns out that for 90 ... 2013 there was not a single helicopter developed by the Russian Federation, there is nothing to show on La Bourget, shame. Draw conclusions gentlemen.

The squadron was founded on April 12, 1989 as part of the 344th Center for Combat Use and Retraining of Army Aviation in Torzhok, then they flew on the Mi-24.

This is a soap box out of the window. Like last year, a return from the PARADE.

Earlier, the "Berkuts" on the Mi-24 had their own special coloring. Now a completely faceless color scheme on the Mi-28. Somehow not good, however ...
Tolley did not have time. Although enough time has passed since they moved to the Mi-28 ... The rear fenders (or maybe someone else, of those higher in the posts) squeezed a denyuzhku ...

However, all this does not detract from the professionalism of the "Berkuts" themselves. I wish them good health and every success in their hard work! drinks
