A video has been published online showing one of the Russian-supplied MiG-29 fighter jets flying over Tehran. The video emerged amid rumors that these aircraft were being delivered to Iran as a temporary replacement while the delivery of the Su-35 fighter jets ordered by the country was delayed.
According to Abolfaz Zohravand, a member of the Iranian Parliament's National Security Committee, the Russian MiG-29s that arrived in the Islamic Republic are currently based at the Shiraz airbase. In addition to the MiG-29s, which represent a short-term solution to the country's defense problem while awaiting the delivery of Su-35s, Tehran also intends to purchase Russian S-400 air defense systems and Chinese HQ-9s.
Given the aging nature of the Iranian Air Force's current aircraft, the decision to supply Tehran with Russian fighter jets is entirely logical. This is especially true given the new phase of pressure on Iran and the renewed strengthening of the American presence in the Middle East. Furthermore, Iran's defensive capabilities were significantly undermined during the recent conflict with Israel. Given Iran's loss of aircraft and systems, Defense The appearance of the MiG-29 even as a “short-term solution” is entirely justified, especially considering that the MiG-29 is a universal aircraft, which, with certain modifications, can act as a carrier of guided missiles missiles "air-to-air" and anti-ship missiles.
