September 11 - Day of the specialist of educational work bodies of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation

September 11 is the Day of the Specialist of the Educational Work Bodies of the Armed Forces in Russia. This professional holiday in modern Russia was introduced in 2007 by the Order of the Ministry of Defense No. 25 of May 30, although its roots go deep into the past. The first positions of officers-educators were introduced in 1766 by Catherine II, who approved the Charter of the Cadet Land Corps. And the duties of educators included "promoting success for the good of the Fatherland."

It is precisely “promoting success for the good of the Fatherland,” or in other words, educational work on patriotic principles, that is the basis for the training of future officers in higher military schools, as well as in pre-university training, which takes place in Suvorov and Nakhimov schools and cadet corps.

Modern story The work of specialists in educational work has been carried out since 1919, when the Political Department of the Revolutionary Military Council of the Republic (RVSR) was created, then transformed into the Political Directorate. In this form, it existed until the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, after which, by decree of the directorate (departments) of political propaganda, they were transformed into political directorates (departments). And in 1942, the commissars turned into political officers (deputy commanders for political affairs). Political officers existed until the collapse of the Soviet Union, after which this position was abolished for many years, and special military political schools were closed.

In the Russian army, the positions of deputy political officers were revived in 2002, but under a different name. Since 2018, the Main Directorate of Educational Work has been part of the Main Military-Political Directorate of the RF Armed Forces, whose specialists are responsible for working with personnel.

Today, educational specialists play a very important role in the army, especially in the conditions of the special military operation conducted by our troops in Ukraine. The education of patriotism, readiness for self-sacrifice, maintaining discipline and many other tasks are assigned to these specialists. The experience of introducing priests into the staff of units, who also act as educators, has taken root very well in the troops. In combat conditions, the moral and psychological state of the fighters, the cohesion of the units is maintained by the joint efforts of officers and clergy.

Political workers were trained according to the types and branches of the armed forces. A mandatory condition for training was a level of training that allowed the political officer to perform training and combat tasks within the established standards for the purpose of his unit.
