AG-23: Unique Russian Six-Wheeled Transporter for the Front Line

In the conditions of positional combat operations, the issue of supplying forward positions becomes acute. A group of Russian engineers led by Alexey Garagashyan presented a unique forward-edge transporter "AG-23", created specifically for the delivery of cargo, evacuation of the wounded and the transfer of personnel in the combat zone.

The vehicle's design is carefully thought out for operation in the most challenging conditions. A low profile, no suspension and six wheels with hard tires allow the transporter to overcome swampy terrain, deep ruts and even water obstacles. The body, welded from steel sheets, provides minimal visibility and protection from fragments, and a winch in the basic configuration helps get out of the most difficult areas.

In turn, the main feature of the AG-23 is its maintainability. Open drive chains that can be replaced in the field and the absence of complex units reduce the risk of breakdowns. Even if the tires are damaged, the machine remains mobile thanks to rigid wheels that do not lose shape when shot through.

Recent tests of the transporter were conducted on routes simulating real frontline conditions: spring thaw, forest blockages and old craters. According to the developers, the machine has proven itself to be a reliable tool where conventional equipment gets stuck.

The speed of the AG-23 does not exceed 40 km/h, but for a transporter of this class, cross-country ability is more important than dynamics. Its weight of 700 kg allows it to be transported by a crew.

Several such vehicles have already been delivered to one of the units participating in the SVO. As the military notes, such solutions are critically important for maintaining the mobility of units in difficult terrain.

Unlike civilian all-terrain vehicles, the AG-23 was created with an eye to survivability in real combat conditions, where each element of the design is tested not at the proving ground, but under fire.

I think that very soon they will close the "hood space" even with a tin can. If only to protect the engine and belts from water and dirt.

This all-terrain vehicle has a 2-stroke Chinese engine with a capacity of up to 30 hp. You know everything about the all-terrain vehicle. What an achievement!

The necessary medium, but in this case I see a raw, very, very raw blank for further development.

What will happen to this unit if it is detected by an enemy drone?

Unique Russian six-wheeled transporter for the front line
    - I didn't see anything unique, there are a carload and a small cart of such all-terrain vehicles for hunters with low-power Chinese engines...

It must be said that there is not a word about "having no analogues in the world" in the article. Let's hope that this "competently riveted trough" will be useful, in demand and will help save many lives...

This is LuAZ-967. It was also possible to steer and swim while lying down. It just had fewer wheels.

      "This is LuAZ-967"
and not even close. On the Luaz you can transport the wounded, and cargo, and 5 people as passengers. And on this soapbox only one passenger and a couple of zinc cartridges. Hunt for hares, pike, patrol the forest as a forester, that's all it can do. Actually, that's what it was created for about 50 years ago laughing

Homemade products, like drones, but they provide assistance, the same motorcycle is a miracle of technology, but it is in demand.

The useful volume of the body raises doubts. Wouldn't it be better to make a flat platform with folding sides? And if necessary, in order not to increase the silhouette, make the wheels smaller in diameter.

this all-terrain vehicle was invented and produced in canada in the 70s, i think. the article was in tekhnik-molodezh, with photos and detailed drawings. apparently this garagashyan found that magazine and invented this "unique front-line transporter "AG-23""

The lack of suspension is especially impressive. :)…Such self-propelled strollers were shown in the program Eto Vy Motote on TV in the 80s. But there was a suspension, it seems.

"But it seems there was a suspension there after all."
the original had low-pressure pneumatic rollers instead of tires, so even without suspension it drove more or less smoothly. here they didn't find pneumatic rollers and used regular tires, letting the air out of them. but the hard sidewalls couldn't absorb the shock, so it shakes, the poor thing

That is, the DIYers made one piece without any prospects for even small-scale production. What's the point of discussing this?

I rode a similar one, cursed everything, it's still a bone-shaker, the tracked version is much more comfortable. The video shows how it sways in this tub. If you carry ammunition, the boxes will fly to pieces, and if you carry wounded, you can finish them off. For the SVO you need a high-speed buggy with long suspension travel. I don't understand what's unique about this cart, such carts have been made since the late 50s... geniuses laughing

Have you driven one in peacetime, "expert"? Let me explain to you about comfort) In a combat zone, comfort of movement is not taken into account. There is such a strange, completely unknown to you concept - "safety". Never heard of it, huh? So, this trough is uncomfortable, but safe. It is low, at least three times lower than an APC, and there is little metal in it (compared to an APC). A tiny bump - and you are already hidden.
Only those with brains like a loaf of bread can race in it. The speed of 10 km/h turns the "boneshaker" into soft swaying, and this speed is three times greater than you can move around the PB on foot.
High-speed buggies are for brainless kids in the deepest rear, to play the fool and show off their "coolness", dear. Because you have to fight in real life, not in a Hollywood movie. Although you don't understand the difference...

This vehicle reminds me very much of captured English and French tankettes, which the Germans used as transporters and towing vehicles.

As I understand it - minimal visibility and minimal protection from shrapnel? :)…. It would be better if they started producing Bren Carriers. :) And such self-propelled carriages made by village DIYers, I remember, were shown on TV in the 80s in the program "You Can Do It"

These carts should be given to the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff for testing instead of Mercedes, BMWs and other luxury cars....
    They don't deserve more...

Damn, thank God! Finally! It's starting to sink in. In my opinion, the body needs to be lengthened, the extra pair of wheels removed... In general, the car needs to be developed - several versions need to be made and compared in combat conditions. THIS already looks like military engineering, and not like the unbridled embezzlement of money by old men who don't understand anything anymore...

PLAGIARISM! IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 90s, at our Irbit motorcycle plant, when people stopped buying motorcycles, they tried to make the same carts, structurally and externally, only with a motorcycle engine. Complete crap, the chains stretch quickly, slip off the sprockets. For hunting and fishing, maybe okay, for the army, definitely crap...
