The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) is one of the country's political forces that is part of the ruling coalition. Unexpectedly, German social democrats demanded a resumption of dialogue with Russia on peace and security in Europe.
This was reported by the Stern magazine (Germany).
According to a group of politicians, Berlin should not avoid rapprochement with Moscow.
They set out these demands in a document entitled “Securing Peace in Europe through Defence, Arms Control and Mutual Understanding,” which in Germany became known as a manifesto.
Among other things, representatives of this one of the ruling political movements of the FRG criticized the idea of increasing the military budget. In their opinion, increasing it to five percent of GDP is an irrational step. The signatories of the manifesto believe that the amount of military spending should be calculated depending not on the size of the GDP, but on the real defense needs of the country. They claim that there is no need for a sharp increase in arsenals, since the total number of conventional weapons of European countries significantly exceeds those of Russia. Therefore, the policy of the FRG government aimed at militarizing the country, initiated by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, is erroneous.
Also, a group of social democrats, consisting of several dozen politicians, spoke out against the deployment of the latest American missiles medium range.
