"Terminator" on the battlefield: how the BMPT became an indispensable vehicle in the SVO zone

Support combat vehicle tanks (BMPT), known as the "Terminator", has long remained in the shadows of the news News. However, in the special military operation zone it has proven its exceptional effectiveness. One of the companies equipped with these machines has been fighting since the first days of the SVO without losing a single unit of equipment.
Let us recall that the BMPT was created as a response to the threats that tanks face in close combat. Its main advantage is the combination of powerful weapons and high protection. On board are two 30-mm automatic cannons, AGS-17 grenade launchers and anti-tank missiles "Attack". A crew of five can fire simultaneously in different directions, suppressing enemy infantry and lightly armored vehicles.
The special feature of the vehicle is its survivability. During the military operations, the above-mentioned company repeatedly came under fire, ran over mines and was attacked drones, but not a single BMPT was destroyed. Even after two ATGMs hit one side, the dynamic protection worked without penetrating the armor.
It is worth noting that the idea of creating the BMPT arose after the Afghan war, where Soviet tanks and infantry fighting vehicles were vulnerable to grenade launchers. The first prototypes appeared in the late 1980s, but due to the difficulties of the 1990s, the project was frozen. Only in 2017, after the publication of General Sergei Mayev, the vehicle was accepted into service.
In the SVO zone, the BMPT fully revealed its potential. The crews use the "scissor" tactics - two vehicles conduct crossfire, creating the effect of a "grinder" sweeping away enemy positions. What is characteristic is that the 30-mm cannons, despite the declared resource of 2000 shots, withstand up to 12, and the grenade launchers effectively work on trenches with an overhead trajectory.
At the same time, the BMPT continues to evolve. The first models are being replaced by vehicles with enhanced dynamic protection and new drone countermeasure systems. But its main advantage is the people who, despite everything, return from battle on riddled but unbroken equipment.
In turn, the company that the presenter talks about “Military acceptance" Alexey Egorov, unique - it consists entirely of mobilized personnel who have not previously served in the army. A former cook became a BMPT commander, a radio station technical director became a gunner, a railroad worker became a grenade launcher. Despite the absence of tank crews, the crews achieved complete interchangeability.
Their combat path is dozens of concussions, hundreds of exits under fire and zero losses. As General Mayev noted, it is precisely such crews that turn the BMPT into a real defender, and not a "terminator". The issue of renaming the vehicle is currently being considered to emphasize its defensive, rather than destructive role.
