Brest or Potsdam

A dirty peace or a hard war

The situation on the Ukrainian front is simple, if you exclude various empty words. Brest is a shameful peace, or Potsdam is the complete capitulation of the enemy.

We are being forced into a shameful peace. That is, a 30-day ceasefire and a freeze along the line of military operations. The enemy retains parts of Donbass, Zaporizhia and Kherson region. The land corridor to Crimea is under fire. A number of regions are receiving eternal Minsk agreements, with provocations, shelling, sabotage, and raids. drones etc.

Plus the possibility of resuming the war at any time when the enemy deems it necessary. When the rearmament of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is completed. It is obvious that NATO will strengthen its structures in the Ukrainian Reich. A constant military-strategic threat.

Further economic exhaustion of the Russian Federation, since it will be necessary to keep the bulk of the army in the Ukrainian direction.

If the current situation of "under-war" is maintained. The scenario is also complicated. The Ukrainian Armed Forces will not leave Slavyansk and the rest of the Donetsk region, Zaporizhia and Kherson. They will have to be taken - this will take a year or two. New sanctions, worsening economic situation. Growing tension in a society that lives in the illusion of peace.

More people will have to be taken to the front. New losses. UAV strikes and missiles in depth. Europe will arm the Ukrainians to the teeth in order to gain time for its militarization.

The militarization of society and economy will continue in the Russian Federation. Partial mobilization is possible.

And to win, we will have to abandon the situation of the "unfinished war", the illusion of peace. Remember Great Russia, abandon the capitulation of 1991. That is, a complete break with the collective West, which is a pain in the neck for a significant part of the new nobility.

Destroy decision-making centers by all means (following the example of Israel), liquidate the military-political, administrative, economic top of the Ukrainian Reich. Demolish bridges across the Dnieper, remove railway junctions, mine the coast, stop shipping in the Black Sea, establish a no-fly zone in the Ukraine, etc.

Take Kharkov, Sumy, Chernigov, Pereyaslavl, Poltava, Dnepropetrovsk, Kherson, Zaporozhye, Nikolaev, Odessa. Go to the Dnieper line, occupy the entire Black Sea coast.

This will be a disaster for the Kyiv regime. They will sign any peace. This is a fact. Next, the inclusion of the Left Bank and Novorossiya into the Russian Federation. Complete demilitarization and denazification of the Ukrainian Reich. Military control over the remnants of the former Ukrainian SSR. Total Russification, restoration of Russianness - language, culture, media, school, office work. A transitional period of 20 years, with the complete restoration of Little Rus' - historical Kyiv, Galicia-Volyn, Carpathian Rus.

It will be possible to restore a new Union – Great Russia, Little Russia, New Russia and White Rus'. To solve the Ukrainian question. To lay the foundations of a new Russian state, which will allow us to survive in the raging world of global turmoil crisis, the Great Reset of the planet.

But the price will also be high. Because the West will do its best to save the Ukrainians. The country and the population will have to tighten their belts to the fullest extent. Mobilization of the economy and the population, new industrialization. Search for breakthrough technologies, solutions that will allow us to enter a new technological order.

therefore It's simple. Either a hard war or a shameful peace - with further war, and potential unrest in the Russian Federation against the backdrop of the economic crisis, the migration issue, the Islamization of a number of regions, etc.

In the meantime, Moscow is biding its time. But we will have to decide. The hard reality or the illusions of the "under-war", the world "partners" who want to devour us. Use the country and the people as raw materials.

How to break the positional struggle scenario?

Remember the lessons of World War II ("God is always on the side of the big battalions".). Let me remind you that during the Battle of the Dnieper – a series of interconnected strategic operations that the Red Army carried out in the second half of 1943 in Left-Bank Ukraine – 2,6 million soldiers (troops from 4 fronts), 50 thousand guns and mortars, about 2500 tanks and 3000 aircraft.

As a result, the Russians liberated the Left Bank of the Dnieper from German troops, captured a number of bridgeheads on the Right Bank, and liberated the ancient Russian capital – Kyiv.

The well-prepared defense of the Wehrmacht, which knew how to fight much better than the Ukrainian Armed Forces, was broken, the Nazis were forced to retreat to the west of the Ukrainian SSR, losing entire regions.

If we allow the emergence drones-drones already in the Great Patriotic War, they would not have helped the Wehrmacht. And satellite reconnaissance would not have helped. There is no defense against a crowbar. The density of striking groups is too high, artillery, armored forces and the Air Force in the directions of the main attacks.

That is, the only way to radically break the positional scenario of a massacre, when the fight is for “a couple of sheds” per day, is the mobilization scenario – “The huge country is rising!”

Surprise is not a prerequisite for such a course of military action. Concentration of forces and resources in selected areas, for example, in the north of Ukraine, where the enemy has no support in the form of industrial zones of Donbass, simply sweeps away the enemy's defense. Modern developments in the form of drones, systems Defense and satellites won't help.

It is important to remember that The positional confrontation, which has been going on for four years now, ultimately takes more lives than the rapid offensive operations of the Wehrmacht or the Red Army. And the economy is oppressed by positional warfare. Positional warfare also oppresses the consciousness of the army and the population (demoralization). Assaults by small groups are a complete dead end. Plus large losses of manpower and the transformation of the Russian land into a lunar landscape. Into a Wild, uninhabited field.

Therefore, it is necessary to remember that The main problem of the SVO is a severe shortage of people and equipment. In essence, the Russian Federation has not yet entered the military mobilization regime. There is peace in the rear. There is a severe shortage of soldiers at the front and weapons. Forces aviation, the missile and artillery troops are not concentrated in the direction of the breakthrough, but are spread out along the entire front line.

Density of troops and firepower, strikes in depth - the solution to the problem. Plus air offensive operations, with the complete suppression of the enemy's air force and air defense, its rear infrastructure (railway stations, bridges, ports, etc.). And millions of strike-reconnaissance, strike drones, which the enemy is already moving towards.

With a large number of people and equipment, it is possible to carry out several strikes. The enemy, who also has a limited number of experienced UAV units, simply will not be able to hold all sections of the front.

Therefore, tales about the death of mass ground troops are an illusion. As Napoleon liked to say:

God is always on the side of the big battalions.

More soldiers, tanks and guns are needed – and any defense will collapse. The problem is that Moscow does not want this, keeping everything in the “under-war” mode. And the result is huge demographic losses and an economic crisis. Moral fatigue of the army and society, which are already ready for the slogan “bayonets in the ground!”

He who chooses shame between war and shame, gets both.

It is obvious that peace is better than war. And even more: any war is waged for peace, but not just any peace, but one that is better than the pre-war one. Consequence: any peace is the result of war. It is bought at this price, and is held only by the threat to demand payment of this price again if someone does not like it for some reason. But sooner or later, those willing to try will be found. Therefore, if you want peace, prepare for war.

But peace is not an alternative to war. An alternative is when there is a possibility of choice. And those who make decisions are not faced with the choice of "war or peace?". Their choice is formulated as follows: "war or shame?", which is equivalent to the formulation "war or war + shame?" (see the first paragraph).

What is all this about? The fact that preserving the Ukrainian state makes the next war inevitable. A much more difficult one. Let's recall the declared goals for 2022, and see how to achieve them if peace is concluded under the current LBS. Spoiler - no way. This already happened in 2014, when everyone (including here, on VO) demanded to bring in troops and put an end to Ukrainian statehood. But this was not done. In 2022, President Putin officially and publicly admitted that this was a mistaken decision. Freezing the conflict (passing it on to descendants) is a manifestation of "dancing on a rake". Those who are dying at the front now were children in 2014. Look at today's children and ask yourself "is this the future I want for them?"

A very serious (in a sense, cultural) problem of our management is the dominance of form over content, reliance on half measures and dragging out deadlines (when speed is everything). This is a disastrous path. Either the approach will be changed at the highest level, or there will be no one (and no one for whom) to change or preserve it.

This thesis sounds so naive. You obviously don't really believe it, like many others.
Conclusion: regardless of whether it continues or peace is signed, the result will be the same.

Ukraine is simply a consequence of the problem that in countries the elites are corrupt and no longer capable of progress, even if Ukraine is completely included in the Russian Federation the root of the problem will not go away.

Let's recall the declared goals for 2022, and see how to achieve them if peace is concluded under the current LBS. Spoiler - no way.

I suggest going even further and looking at Putin's Russia at the turn of the millennium speech in 1999 and seeing what has been improved relative to the numbers voiced in that article and the plans for the future, and what has actually happened in 25 years (spoiler: the GDP gap between Russia and the US/China has become even wider).

Russia can win only if it starts working on its internal problems (demography, social situation, standard of living) right now and builds a country that all its neighbors would ask to join, or dream of moving to permanent residence from all over the world. In all other respects it won't matter, Ukraine won't be part of Russia, as soon as the current elite gives in even more due to age, turbulent processes will begin, because internal problems are not being solved, but only getting worse, and this is a perfect breeding ground for various crooks: separatists, religious extremists, monarchists, etc.

It won't. The state is doing everything in practice to convert the population decline into hard cash. If the government had the will, it would subordinate the construction sector, regulations, construction technologies, etc., so that the price per meter would fall, labor productivity in construction would increase, and the appetites of banks and developers would be limited. Construction materials. The state will lower the quota for the sector, and within the quota, ensure the set price. Whatever you build in addition to this in a year, you can sell on the free market. But there is nothing of this, there are only empty words that diverge from deeds...

It is necessary, no doubt about it. The author is that very captain-obvious. Where to get it? Will China give it to you?
The problem is that Moscow does not want this, keeping everything in the “non-war” mode.

Where did the author get this information? Or does he think that this was the original intention?
Russia has not yet entered military mobilization mode

And it won't work, because there's nothing special to mobilize. Example. In the early 2000s, while working in the UR, I came on duty for a day to steal from a huge plant. Several tons of round timber were stolen from a warehouse. They take us into a huge hangar, practically empty, only a few boxes with zinc ingots in the corner, they show where the round timber was. I ask what kind of warehouse this is. They say it's a mobilization reserve warehouse, in case of war it should store supplies of materials for making ammunition. Mostly non-ferrous metal. I ask why the warehouse is empty, they say well, before it was filled to the brim, and then... everything was stolen...

In 22, with a minimally sane campaign (if they decided to fight 8 years after they themselves recognized the Maidan government), the old Soviet weapons stockpiles would have been enough.
Now all the reserves are wasted, there are no people, the factories have long since ceased to exist. The author's dreams are simply absurd, but even if we cut back on sturgeon and act in the spirit of Strelkov's proposals, it is unclear whether we will be able to pull it off now even with adequate management.

I suppose they were afraid (and still are afraid) of a rebellion with a march on Moscow on a scale much larger than the Wagners. This is a golden moment for "Napoleon", there will be no one to stop him, and the prospect of growing in a week from a "colonel" to the supreme ruler and dictator of a huge country.

There is such a letter in this word, but I still think they are not too afraid of a military coup. All the military from above are selected based on the principle of complete loyalty and corruption. The bellies will not rebel. Prigozhin almost succeeded because he was from the mafia system, but not from Shoigu's department.

Lavrov "Now, when they tell us: "Let's have a ceasefire - and then we'll see", - no, guys! We've already been in these stories, we don't want this anymore," the head of the MFA emphasized and added that Russia will not let itself be deceived by those who propose first declaring a ceasefire in Ukraine, and only then moving on to resolving the situation.
Lavrov recalled how the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations took place in Istanbul in 2022. The minister noted that at that time the parties "initialized the principles of settlement proposed by the Ukrainian delegation."
Putin - "I don't want to say this, but I don't trust anyone. But we need guarantees. And the guarantees must be written down, they must be such that we would be satisfied, in which we would believe. That's what we're talking about... But we certainly won't buy into some empty promises," Well, etc.
I found this in 10 seconds, if you consider that they have spoken and are speaking about this a million hundred times over the last 2 years, then not hearing this means belonging to the categories of citizens described at the beginning of my message.

It seems that they see and understand perfectly well. Only the "adequacy" here is selective. If the country's wealth belongs to a bunch of fat cats who profited from predatory privatization, and theirs is all in foreign banks and foreign currency, what kind of "adequacy" will there be? In fact, they are agents of foreign influence, since their interests, first of all, are in withdrawing their assets from Russia. Therefore, in 2014 "they would have turned everything off for us", but not so much for us as for them, and it is not only their billions that work in foreign banks for a foreign economy, these are their palaces and yachts, children and wives, mistresses. If big capital rules in Russia, and it has a "top manager" who only manages for their interests, what do we have at the end of the day?
In addition, where is the guarantee that "grinding" is not a program of the West, for mutual destruction of the Slavs, and a condition for the Russian bourgeoisie? Do they need nuclear weapons, or does it prevent them from being friends with "partners", where, due to the great Soviet legacy, they have to wriggle out, without the possibility of immediately handing over the country to their real benefactors in the world of capitalism, the question is...
Maybe the empty warehouses and arsenals are a cunning plan, before surrendering the nuclear trump card, in the name of peace and humanism. If so, then the puzzle will come together. But if we are talking not about turning Russia into a colony once and for all, but about victory, it is hardly possible with these renegades.

Interesting logic, and in what pose is this story? Maidan in Kyiv, 2014 - a pro-Western, anti-constitutional coup d'etat. What do we have in Ukraine, under whom is it? Moscow "Maidan", 1991 - a pro-Western, anti-constitutional coup d'etat, where both the Constitution of the USSR and the results of the All-Union referendum for the preservation of the Union were trampled. How could three traitors in Belovezhskaya Pushcha spontaneously declare the dissolution of the USSR, how could the fourth one lower the red flag in the Kremlin? Yeltsin, a renegade, who disgraced the country, handed out "sovereignties", and agents of the US State Department and the CIA flooded Russia. What was that? Who was on Sobchak's team, Chubais's protégé, who has already fled Russia, who was appointed as Yeltsin's successor and why? "A submissive pose" for getting up from your knees... 34 years have passed since all this has been happening, and nothing fundamentally new has been created under the bourgeoisie, they are finishing off Soviet developments, modernizing what has been created. Of course, in 1991 there were no LCD panels on the entire wall, smartphones and social networks, but this is not the merit of our "elite", especially since all this was not mainly created in Russia, moreover, now "galoshes" are from China, and even files and nails. Some have gotten to diluted beer and used foreign cars, this is a measure of happiness. Where would the Soviet Union be, in these 34 years, if there was a real "acceleration" and a healthy "perestroika", our apple trees would already be blooming on Mars, and not priests at the cosmodrome sprinkling rockets with holy water...

In principle, we can agree with everything. Only, in theory, adequacy is the understanding that they are not their own for the West and will be fleeced first of all, because they have spent too much there. Gaddafi and Milosevic probably also expected that they would be among the chosen ones, but something went wrong for them. Can it be that they at the top do not understand that they are simply talking to them, only because they have some army behind them, and first of all, nuclear weapons. An adequate leader is a person who understands that it is not he who determines the object of management, but the object itself that characterizes him. When the USSR with its second economy and army stood behind us, we were reckoned with, but now we are counted by our strength and oil.

Our "elite" is not the enemy of the West, it is their loyal friend-lackey, there is nothing to forgive them for, especially if they help to wear out Russia with their selfish interests. Who would have thought that it is possible to destroy air bases in Siberia and the Far East with small drones, causing damage many times greater than their cost? But it turns out that there is such an opportunity. The main problem is the management, which does not show the necessary will to win.

Here we can see the difference in the assessment of the conflict at different levels. For "Deep Russia" (which is Russia) this is an existential conflict, and for "official Russia" it is simply a mismatch of immediate interests. Some decide, others perish. And this is already the basis for an internal conflict, it is a very slippery and crooked path.

There are no missiles that can break through Kyiv's air defense and strike targets? There is simply no order, that's all. The same goes for bridges, if we use TNW on key infrastructure facilities, we will completely destroy them, even the collapse of one Beskid tunnel will already cause serious problems in the field of logistics for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Why this is not the case, this is a question for those who make decisions.... perhaps even without TNW it is possible to disrupt the supply of weapons to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, with conventional weapons, this is a question for specialists. But the problem can be solved, if there is a strong desire.

Or take the recent story of strikes on Russian military airfields, unexpectedly? When Engelsk was already being hit... and on elements of the SPRN system, it was already clear then that there are no borders for Ukraine, they will strike wherever they can reach. Was it impossible to protect strategic bombers? It was possible... but what was done was not enough. The enemy simply outplayed us... because they used non-standard moves, and we have problems with that.

With bridges too, when using tactical nuclear weapons on key infrastructure facilities,

Any use of nuclear weapons by Russia is a path to our defeat, even China will stop talking to us. The situation will look like this: Russia was the first to start military actions against a country that does not have nuclear weapons, and after the operation stalled, it used nuclear weapons against a country that still does not have nuclear weapons.
Which will immediately create an incredible incident, countries that do not possess nuclear weapons, primarily for example Taiwan, Poland, Turkey, Japan, South Korea, etc., can immediately declare their withdrawal from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, which will lead to a real breakdown of the world order, or another option is for the whole world to punish Russia, because unexpectedly, for example, China is not interested in the appearance of nuclear weapons in Taiwan and Japan.

What other options are there? The fact that almost all NATO countries are fighting against Russia, proxies, is this not a reason to use TNW? What do our documents say about the seizure of the Kursk region, and strikes on components of the nuclear triad? And numerous daily strikes on Russian cities using drones? This is not a reason to use nuclear weapons? And we must understand that the use of TNW of a certain power will not lead to a catastrophe, but will fundamentally solve the problem of arms supplies to Ukraine if we strike the necessary infrastructure facilities.

Although if it is possible to get by with conventional weapons, then of course it is better to use them to achieve the result.

And if we continue in the same spirit, the SVO will continue until the 2030s, and Ukraine will build up drones, with the possibility of producing millions of units (especially if the West turns on full power), and with an unpredictable ending.... when AI is integrated with UAVs and no amount of personnel will be enough to turn the tide. And how many fighters will Russia lose by that time? How many migrants will there be in the country by that time? Isn't this a real defeat? But China and our "partners" will not condemn us... but the price of victory, if there is one at all, will be too high in this scenario.

Well, the USSR waged a proxy war with the USA in Vietnam and in the opposite direction the USA waged a proxy war with the USSR in Afghanistan. Moreover, the USSR waged it in earnest and our pilots were also air defense operators, that's why it's a proxy war.

No, it is not a reason, we were the first to start a strategic military operation against a country that does not have nuclear weapons, I repeat, our use of nuclear weapons is a path either to our isolation by the entire world (we do not have enough strength against the entire world), or to the termination of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and in 2-3-5 years, Poland, Japan, etc. will already have nuclear weapons, which will reduce our security to zero.

And if we continue in the same spirit, the SVO will continue until the 2030s, with Ukraine building up its drones, with the possibility of producing millions of units (especially if the West turns on full power), and with an unpredictable ending.

Ukraine is getting tired of this conflict faster than us, they have more losses (demographic, primarily from the decline in birth rates and mass migration), they also have more economic losses, well, that's the reality.

How many migrants will there be in the country by that time?

This has little to do with the SVO; diasporas and migrants appeared in Russia long before the SVO.

These are different things, the question here is Russia's survival, not a proxy war somewhere in Africa or Asia. If we had such showdowns somewhere there... it would be a different story.

By the way, what do they say?

Which we have the right to apply, but in fact there is no political will.

No, it is not a reason, we were the first to start a strategic military operation against a country that does not have nuclear weapons, I repeat, our use of nuclear weapons is a path either to our isolation by the whole world (we do not have enough strength against the whole world)

When the question of Russia's existence is under threat, and everything is heading in that direction.... it is no longer particularly important who started it, what will happen for it and similar questions). Already now, in fact, hundreds of drones are launched every day at our enterprises, military facilities, energy, etc. at the peak, I don't know whether there were a thousand drones or not, but with this trend, in a year or two there will be thousands of drones.... residents of the central part of Russia, together with the South, will now move beyond the Urals? Ukraine has few drones for now, but if there are very, very many of them, then attacks will begin on houses, schools, hospitals, etc. (since Ukraine has no brakes) what are we going to do with all this?

Ukraine is getting tired of this conflict faster than us, they have more losses (demographic, primarily from the decline in birth rates and mass migration), they also have more economic losses, well, that's the reality.

The reality is that Ukraine, with the active support of Europe, is faster in decision-making and actively uses all the technological achievements of the West.... who was the first to start using drones en masse? Who started developing the BEC direction? Who was the first to single out UAVs as a separate branch of the armed forces, etc. - in fact, we are 2 steps behind, and if now in this period of time we have an advantage due to artillery/aviation and the country's mobile resource, then in N-th amount of time, the turn of the 2030s or later, military technologies in terms of robotics + AI can make a leap... now in the USA they are actively building data centers, and sooner or later a single center under AI control will appear - which will control swarms of drones without human participation, and then other types of equipment with an unmanned direction) and God willing the conflict will end before this period of time, otherwise the situation can change radically.

And Ukraine is of course tired of the conflict, and the losses there are huge, etc., but there are risks of direct participation of the EU military contingent by 2030, when the Poles, Balts and other Slavs will go into the fire of war, and then the French and Germans... will we measure who has more mobile potential? The conflict needs to be ended, and the sooner the better.

There is no need to ask such a question, why do you belittle Russia so much, the maximum is a question of the survival of the current elite. Did the US collapse after they lost the war in Vietnam or the USSR after the unsuccessful campaign in Poland? Even the Russian Empire survived defeats in the Crimean War and the Russo-Japanese War (although no conclusions were made). But here the question of defeat is not even a question, the maximum possible for Ukraine is a cessation of hostilities along the line of contact.

So we will eat them (use them) until Zelensky's face explodes and the West has its pants full. There is no other way, given this situation. Will the world community turn away? Which one? India? And what good will India do us? The US will introduce new secondary sanctions and India will show us the fig. China? Unlikely, especially our neighbor.
Everything is true and simple as two and two. The oligarchy does not need all these victories of ours. And if there is a shabby peace, then a shabby end may come. Will the people and the army tolerate a new Minsk-2? And the Kremlin understands this, but can do nothing.

The issue is resolved simply. Surovikin and his deputy Popov are in charge of the operation. All bridges are demolished and the main military facilities are destroyed. The direction where the Ukrainian Armed Forces are weakest is chosen and a breakthrough is made. Then the front crumbles. This is already the second article with an assessment of strategic prospects based on the results of negotiations that predictably ended in nothing. But it is significantly inferior to yesterday's article by V. Biryukov. First of all, the analogies are completely incorrect and lead nowhere.
    1) Brest. The Soviet government gave up space to gain time. The main thing was to strengthen the power of the workers and ripen the German revolution. Everything worked out as planned. Soviet power held on, the revolution won in Germany. The German Empire ceased to exist. The entire Brest Peace lasted 6 months. Is there even the slightest analogy to this now? No, there are no prospects for a revolution in Ukraine (especially a socialist one), there is not even a hint of a struggle during the SVO against the political class of Ukraine, there is no social struggle. The result is that there is no analogy.
    2) Potsdam. The capitulation of Germany in the war against the alliance of the strongest countries in the world, the war itself was started by Germany. The war was a recognized legal and political act. Capitulation as a result of total military defeat. What of this is now? Absolutely nothing, on all points the complete opposite. There is no analogy.
If we move from false analogies to the reality of the current conflict, then here the author is closer to the truth, but he decorates it with such fantastic twists and distortions that it loses all credibility.
What kind of rejection of the "achievements" of 1991? That Putin-Abramovich will arrest themselves and hand over their property and power? What kind of "rise up, great country" and so on, if the SVO was started by the Russian Federation, and does not exist in the legal field at all? This is some kind of fantastic absurdity.
In reality, there is now a choice between trying to get out of the conflict by fixing the loss. To do this, it will apparently be necessary to give up everything except Crimea.
And an attempt to fight minimally adequately, this will not require such radical measures as the author suggests, but still bringing the SVO to a state of war against the Maidan regime in Ukraine, and mobilization measures - will require. This will not lead to any Potsdams, time has long been lost, but ideally in the event of a military defeat, Maidan Ukraine can agree to 4 regions plus Crimea.

From an economic (and political for the country as a whole) point of view, it is high time to fix the losses and leave the casino, but the problem is that losers are not liked anywhere and after that no 80% approval ratings will help, but from the point of view of the survival of the current elites, it looks like the optimal strategy for them with minimal risks of the threat of losing power (and life) is such a sluggish war, Ukraine is still suffering great losses (military, demographic, social) and will get tired of the war faster and in two years (if everything continues like this) will agree to the loss of five regions (and maybe more by that time), but for Russia this will of course be a Pyrrhic victory, no one will lift the sanctions, the regions will not be recognized.

At the moment, certainly yes. But in the distant and not so distant (the indicated 2-3 years) perspective, social tension will only increase (this is not yet taking into account possible "sharp movements" in the form of a new wave of partial mobilization, strengthening of sanctions or significant military defeats like the recent ones) ending the BD in that period of time may turn out to be "more costly" for the authorities than now.

I am skeptical about the idea of popular unrest in the event of an attempt to fix losses and leave the SVO. Unless the return of Crimea will cause mild unrest (which can be avoided during negotiations). In general, the "siloviki" and "Putin's Chechen foot soldiers" easily suppress any discontent. "Ratings" are just a virtual reality, they, like election results, will not change even if the enemy is near Moscow.
In reality, I think the problem is different. An attempt to "give bribes" and fix the losses was already made in Istanbul. The result - "geopoliticians were led by the nose." And if you look at the statements of Putin and Co., they are now talking about security guarantees and that they will not let themselves be deceived again. That is, Putin and Co. are simply afraid that in the case of a "broad compromise" the insidious West will take everything, and then "throw" again and say - and bring here war criminals, etc.
That is, a war of attrition is being waged to improve the negotiating position.
Another thing is that the author is right that such a strategy is "neither here nor there", maybe, probably, to drag out time in the hope that the enemy will tire first because he has fewer people and will go to peace - this is the worst of all possible. Horror without end. Sucking lives and resources without any result. But this is exactly the direction we are going.

The author is very fond of historical analogies.
Judging by the curtseys to Whitkoff, the silence of the Guarantor, the change of the propaganda "record" and the "tirelessness" of Mr. Medinsky, everything is heading towards a new "Dayton". The reasons for the creeping abandonment of the SVO goals were described here in the comments better than the author of the article. The Federation is being led according to the SFRY scenario.

P.S. And regional separatism in the Russian Federation has become more active in recent months.

. a positional confrontation that has been going on for four years now, ultimately takes more lives, than rapid offensive operations

What's the point of grinding then? What have we achieved? No territories, and lives have been wasted.

Propagandists of an innovative method (without analogues) of waging war - grinding - convinced us that, supposedly, territory is not the main thing. The main thing is to grind, and then Ukraine itself will collapse! But for some reason, in the fourth year of bloodshed, it still hasn't collapsed. Maybe we should wait another week?

Despite all the patriotism in the article, it lacks the main thing:
Analysis of the CAUSES that led in one case to the Brest Peace, in the other to the Potsdam Agreements.
Kaiser's Germany FORCED Soviet Russia (not yet Soviet everywhere!) to a "Shameful Peace" instead of a "Peace without annexations and contributions", having carried out an offensive with small forces and, taking advantage of the collapse and self-demobilization of the Russian Army, occupied the Baltics and threatened Petrograd.
The Potsdam Conference also simply summed up the war in Europe and established the boundaries of influence of the victorious countries. No one really had the strength to challenge the current situation, although there were desires, which led to the subsequent confrontation in the form of the Cold War.
Thus, in both cases, there was a recording of the existing situation on the ground and the parties’ agreement with this fact.
Today, the situation on the ground (on the Ukrainian front in particular) is actually unstable, despite its apparent static nature. Thus, it is not possible to fix the situation to the agreement of the parties at the current negotiations.
Back in the summer of 2022, after Mariupol, I wrote that Russia's victory in conducting a strategic offensive with the goal of completely defeating the Ukrainian Armed Forces, occupying and subsequently returning the territory of Ukraine to the Russian Federation. This offensive must be supported by at least three hundred thousand bayonets of highly mobile shock troops, as well as about eight hundred thousand Landwehr troops to carry out cleanups and establish an occupation regime. The strategic offensive must begin with the massive use of nuclear weapons against key structures, bridges and dams in order to immobilize enemy groups and make it impossible to transfer aid from outside. In order to prevent NATO and the United States from intervening, it was primarily intended to launch a missile attack from the ocean on the territory of Ukraine. Then, the shock troops were to seize key facilities on the territory of Ukraine, and the Landwehr, under the leadership of the Russian Guard, was to liquidate the existing authorities on the ground, occupy the territory and begin the actual implementation of the denazification plan.
This sounds scary, but this is the real price of victory in a modern war. I will note that the losses of both sides in the implementation of this plan would be an order of magnitude lower than in the realities of the current conflict.
I also reflected the most probable consequences of refusing to implement this plan. NATO under the leadership of the United States, taking advantage of our indecisiveness, will reduce the situation to a positional war, blockade and a struggle of potentials (which are incomparable in direct comparison), and will prepare one or another scenario of transition to a full-fledged war with escalation along the entire length of Russia's western borders from the Barents to the Black Sea. At the same time, NATO will try to weaken our Strategic Nuclear Forces as much as possible in order to reduce the threat to US territory to an acceptable level. The most dangerous direction for us is Belarus, which is practically half-encircled by NATO and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Thus, our victory consisted of the Blitzkrieg, and the victory of the West consisted of prolonging the conflict with subsequent escalation.
Of course, the subsequent course of events made its own adjustments. The most significant was the strengthening of the China factor, which is forcing the US to postpone preparations for the main confrontation in the Asia-Pacific region. Considering that today Russia does not pose a serious threat in Europe, the tactics of slow strangulation and the use of an extensive agent network to destroy the country from within can work quite effectively against it.

Are you kidding me? The use of nuclear weapons against a country that does not have them, and even as part of a first strike, is a sure path to complete isolation of the country, or a mass withdrawal of all countries from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Now imagine if all our neighbors, including Poland, the Baltics, Japan, South Korea, Turkey, etc., have nuclear weapons. And then the republics of Central Asia will acquire them.

We have already tramped along the right path to isolation. And they will not risk isolating someone who knows how to deal with opponents with deftness. The proliferation of nuclear weapons is a matter of time, and here the main role is played not by the symbolic possession of several charges for revenge from the grave, but by a full-fledged group with delivery vehicles. And all combined arms exercises of the USSR envisaged the use of nuclear weapons and a preemptive strike. And all these emotional assessments were connected with attempts to disarm the enemy under the guise of "the fight for peace."

          Besides, I already wrote:
The alternative is a slow strangulation or escalation of the conflict as the European NATO countries prepare for a major war. We certainly won't be able to take out the front from the Barents to the Black Sea, including the Caucasus.

DPRK? And what do you mean by "dealing with opponents"? Using nuclear weapons against an unsuccessful 4-year war with one of the poorest countries in Europe, which itself does not even have nuclear weapons in the future? Yeah, that's...dashing...

      Greetings, Victor!
I always like your scale! Especially since the displayed vision is a shadow of the very real one, previously mastered by the troops.
In addition, you always note the importance of the RB in the territorial configuration of the GG of the parties to the confrontation. It really has a dangerous geostrategic position, and it is no secret that all the first operations of the NATO Joint Forces, starting with special ones, were planned with the purpose of seizing this very bridgehead for organizing a direct armed confrontation with dreams on the GG for an ultimate impact on the RF VPR when projecting a military threat to a significant depth of our territory. Taking into account the previous success, it was expected that subsequent planning elements would be put into effect with the conduct of provocative operations in Ukraine with the development of the factor of influence of the border armed conflict in Donbas, its subsequent escalation to a military conflict directly with the Russian Federation, the creation of the necessary international situation with the designation of the aggressor, the drawing of our Group of Forces into the depths of the territory of Ukraine, the initiation of the deployment of coalition forces of Europe according to the plan "Defender of Europe" and the conduct of a number of practiced military operations to defeat our Group of Forces, deeply wedged into the focal defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, causing significant damage to the forces of the Black Sea Fleet, OTA and a number of KVO on the internationally recognized territory of the Russian Federation by the coalition Armed Forces of European countries with the support of the Group of Forces (s) of the US Army/Navy on the basis of decisions of the OU of international treaty organizations, ... . But the obvious - the incredible, most likely is the most probable - the USA simply did not risk starting to implement the further stages of the first NATO operations, and the reason is most likely simple - the failure to meet all deadlines and volumes of implementation of even well-practiced and mastered by the troops measures, the unwillingness of the satellites to sacrifice themselves for the USA and resentment for using them "in the dark", etc. Here, with all the enthusiasm of self-destruction, the striped ones did not have the courage to expose their continental territory to threats and factors of nuclear weapons, which led to a crawl "to previously prepared lines" with a change in management for some period. Were we aware of these trends and the signs directly characterizing them? I believe that we were. Did we plan a comprehensive nuclear defeat of the Coalition Forces of Europe and part of the US Armed Forces in Europe? I am sure that we were. Were a number of indicative moments communicated to the enemy side? I believe that this was done with respect to individual representatives. Is there an effect? I believe that this should be considered in a comprehensive manner, based on indicators, the most important of which is the time until the "H" hour. I believe that it exists, this effect, but how we will be able to use it - I don't know, but "H" does not disappear anywhere, and we need significant forces for this hour.

The Brest peace was painful but necessary. V.I. Lenin made a difficult but correct decision and reasonable people realized this, albeit retroactively.
Today the situation strongly resembles that of that time - the inability of the second largest army in the world and 80% equipped with the most modern weapons to defeat the enemy army and liberate its own territory forces it to make a separate deal with the enemy and despite the obvious facts, the foolish continue to rave about Kharkov, Sumy, Chernigov, Pereyaslavl, Poltava, Dnepropetrovsk, Kherson, Zaporozhye, Nikolaev, Odessa, access to the Dnieper line and the entire Black Sea coast.

The author has some black and white thoughts. It's like the military supposedly - either go to a parade with a red flag, or surrender with a white one.
Even the Minister of Culture says that the Northern War lasted 21 years. Well, in the Northern War the commander-in-chief surrendered near Narva and the bells were melted down, and Ukrainian defected to the enemy. And in today's times - the Chechen war only lasted ten years. And Ukrainian no stronger than a Chechen...shouldn't last more than five to seven years. There will be no obscene peace (because there is no one to make peace with). No Potsdam (because there are no allies to share the spoils).

Because it is impossible to fight today without air superiority. You can't do Yandex normally... moving in pairs...
I don't know, apathy... some kind of apathy, it's not clear where they are leading us

The problem is that the leadership of our country was afraid of a quick and bright victory, which could lead to the reformatting of the Russian Federation into a people's one, following the example of the Donbass republics, and the bourgeois bloodsuckers do not need this, they need to make money, even at the cost of the blood of their compatriots, to secure the profit and pass it on to the heirs, so that no one would remember about privatization, but in fact it is robbery.

You see, the present pre-war period is already quite complicated by the layering of various events and, relative to existing ideas, it is quite long. Based on these features, it is likely to assume that its periodization with reference to the calendar is quite peculiar, significant changes in the planned dates and content of events are introduced by the decision itself to conduct the SVO and its course itself. Emotions are inappropriate here - only precise calculations and correct information that form the initial data for decision-making. So we have to hope for this, otherwise: earlier is bad and later is even worse recourse

The thing is that the newly-minted nobility craves a deal. So that their lovers/mistresses can shop again in London-Paris-Milan-Amsterdam, and they themselves can fly to mansions in Courchevel and Nice for the weekend.
That is why this newly-minted nobility is literally in an epileptic fit to prevent a decisive victory. Because it imagines that the month-long positional meat grinders "for the forester's lodge" will eventually lead to a critical change in the mood of society. And this nobility with its demagogy about a child's tear and a drop of blood will again turn the country into the obscene 90s, in order to rob the country again with three throats.
