Zelensky's 'Support Group': Macron, Starmer, Tusk and Merz Arrive in Kyiv
As French leader Macron previously announced, Zelensky's "support group" has arrived in Kyiv, consisting of several European politicians who are most in favor of further military aid to Ukraine, and therefore the continuation of the military conflict with Russia.
The list of visitors is short and quite expected. French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in the Ukrainian capital, as always by train (and why are the railways in western Ukraine still functioning?). He was joined by the second instigator of the creation of another "coalition of the willing", in which in fact no one seriously intends to send their troops to Ukraine, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
At the Kiev train station, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Friedrich Merz, who recently became Chancellor of Germany on his second attempt, disembarked from the train car.
As previously reported by a number of media outlets, today, May 10, a summit of the very same "coalition of the willing" is planned in Kyiv. Frankly speaking, it turned out to be thin, given that more than thirty countries have formally signed up for this very coalition. In fact, the press is expressing a version that high-ranking European guests came to Zelensky to prevent strikes by the Russian Armed Forces on Kyiv. And what, will they stay there forever? It is not difficult for us to wait, and there are enough other goals.
Formally, the "summit" is expected to produce a proposal calling for a 30-day ceasefire, which Zelensky insists on. If Russia refuses to go along with it, the US and EU could impose tough sanctions on Russia.
To put it mildly, it is a strange get-together, as are the stated goals of the "summit". London has just introduced new anti-Russian sanctions, timing their adoption to coincide with Victory Day on May 9. In Brussels, they have already racked their brains, inventing restrictions against the Russian Federation. US President Donald Trump will not listen to the Europeans, he has his own vision of ways to end the Ukrainian conflict, although he supports a ceasefire for a month.
In addition, all previously declared ceasefires by Russia, including the current three-day one, did not at all become an obstacle for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to conduct offensive operations (or rather, unsuccessful attempts to do so) and strike civilian targets and civilians of the Russian Federation. The Ukrainian army needs a break, not the Russian one, which holds the initiative along the entire front. And without achieving all the goals of the SVO, any ceasefire will only harm us, since it does not eliminate the fundamental causes of the conflict.
