"They will replace the outdated ones": Kim Jong-un inspects the production of new tanks, noting the DPRK's progress in tank building

The DPRK is successfully replacing its outdated tanks for new modern vehicles of our own design. This was stated by Kim Jong-un, who visited the republic's leading tank-building plant, KCNA reports.

The leader of the DPRK got acquainted with the production of modern tanks developed by North Korean designers, noting the great progress. According to him, the new vehicles correspond to the best models of foreign-made tanks, they will replace the outdated tanks in the Korean People's Army, which were adopted in the last century.

Replacing the armored vehicles of our ground forces from the last century with the latest tanks and armored vehicles is the most important issue in the development of the armed forces and the modernization of the ground forces.

- the Korean leader said.

As noted, the new tanks feature the latest active protection system, passive protection systems, and an electronic warfare system. The tanks also received a new "super-powerful" engine and power transmission. No other details about the new tanks have been reported. At the same time, Pyongyang intends to reconsider the role of tanks in modern warfare, taking into account the conflict in Ukraine.

Comrade Kim Jong-un noted that at present, when subjective and objective conditions have changed, it is necessary to precisely formulate the military function and role of tanks in modern warfare and the direction of their development.

- reported the Central Asia Telecommunications Agency.

Tanks are good. But Kim now, his Korean fighters together with Russian colleagues, are gaining such combat experience that their neighbors have never dreamed of. This is where the main acquisition for the DPRK army is - experienced fighters soldier

They recently tested some fashionable rocket, and here, I think, in addition to experience, they also gave their comrades some technology.

One of the main topics now is to improve defense against drones, one of the main enemies of technology in modern warfare. Good luck to the North Koreans.

This is not a modern war, but the Central Military District. If there had been a full-fledged war, there might not have been any factories, ports, airports, or anything else left from 404. They would have thrown nuclear weapons at it, that would have been the whole war. The same would have happened with NATO. With such planning at the beginning of the Central Military District, factories should have been working hard. A huge number of tanks, missiles, and planes would have been built. But here they thought that they would go in and have a good time. The General Staff screwed up on all fronts in their planning, and everything went into positional warfare and the death of hundreds of thousands of soldiers.

A full-scale war is of no use to anyone. Country 404 is a whipping boy on par with Germany!

And the Koreans will make good tank crews...
My father told me that when he was being recruited as a tank driver, they recruited people no taller than 170 cm.

Korean soldiers are very diligent warriors: stubborn and angry at their enemies. But here's what bothers me: the tank's profile is very high, and that's not GUT!

The profile is high, but the tower is seemingly uninhabited. So the crew is in a capsule. In the style of the Armata.

I completely agree with this - the tank wedges of Guderian's time seem to have become history, tanks in the SVO mostly work as self-propelled guns, a cheap anti-tank mine or drone can easily disable any super-duper tank (Leclerc, I think they haven't tested it in the SVO yet, the others burn just fine).

There could be more photos, but even from the ones we have, it's clear that the tank looks cool and modern. The front of the hull resembles Leclerc, the turret is similar to Leclerc or Black Panther. On top of the turret are 2 rotating modules with 4 mortars - what is this, is it really an APS? The retinue is all with notepads - to write down the Leader's comments.

81 mm smoke grenade launchers are in a row (visible in other photos) in the rear part of the turret. And these mortars are larger. Mortars similar to the mortars of the KAZ "Afganit" were already on the previous tank Cheonma-2.

      Hi Andrew hi
Yes, the rubber boots in the photo have fallen off in some places... What kind of fashion has this become - to stick such boots on tracks? They must have seen enough from the Americans. The Americans were the first to put them on. Well, maybe it's okay to drive on these on asphalt, but on tank roads or off-road...
I saw a video of an Abrams with such tracks being pulled into a skid in the winter on snow and ice - a real drift. laughing

Road safety is more important than virtual passability. A tank destroys a dirt road so much that soon it itself cannot pass on it. And the rumble on the asphalt is such that the place where a tank or self-propelled gun is driving can be pointed out with a finger from 2,5-3 kilometers away. Even a BMP-1 rattles so much it's a nightmare.

On such tracks in winter, on snow and ice, it would drag you into a skid

After 5 tracks, spurs are required to be installed instead of shoes.
And the fact that the shoes are falling off is really bad. The fastening needs to be improved.

It seems to me that the era of tanks with a direct-fire gun and high armor penetration is gone. Over time, they will create an ATGM with a vertical launch, and the gun will be replaced with a low-ballistic 152 mm gun for fire from closed positions or direct fire at close targets, installed in the hull. Well, the cherry on the cake is two modules with small-caliber machine guns for combating UAVs and self-defense. The stabilization systems of a modern tank gun are complex, bulky and practically not used, but together with the turret they have a lot of weight

I wonder if Kim is diplomatically pulling the wool over our eyes, or if he really thinks so? With today's level of technology (and the Koreans even make their own smartphones), new tanks are redundant, because even the T-34 can be turned into a wonder weapon. And this conversion of 1000 tanks will cost less than a couple of Armatas.

North Korea, oddly enough, will soon overtake us in terms of weapons technology.
It is clear that we sell them technologies in exchange for help, but the economic capabilities of our countries are not comparable.
And their weapons, so far only ground-based, are getting better. And there is a lot of them.
