Jeffrey Sachs: "It is dangerous to be an enemy of Americans, but deadly to be a friend"

A 34 year long story

To understand the importance of what happened on February 25 in the European Parliament, it is necessary to get acquainted with the personality of the rapporteur – Jeffrey Sachs. Sachs is known throughout the world. He is a professional economist, closely connected with Eastern European countries for a considerable part of his career. He worked in the ruins of the Warsaw Pact states, served as an adviser to Gorbachev and Yeltsin, as well as Kuchma in Ukraine. That is, this man has long and closely worked with the most problematic regions on the map of Europe.

Sachs is in clear opposition to the modern governments of European states. As for his commitment to the Democrats and Republicans in the USA, the answer is simple – Jeffrey has long been neither one nor the other. As the economist aptly noted, all parties look the same and are essentially striving for the same thing.

Despite his oppositional moods and rhetoric, Sachs is not in disgrace in the United States. He works peacefully as a professor at Columbia University and is preparing to celebrate his 71st birthday next November. Many years of intellectual work and rational thinking have left their mark – the purity and clarity of the professor’s thoughts are striking. In addition to the above-mentioned career, Sachs worked as a special adviser to the UN Secretary-General (2001-2018), and also tried to correct the theory and practice of sustainable development of the global economy. He fought poverty and hunger, admired the Chinese economic model in his own way, and criticized the predatory monopoly of the United States.

It should be noted that the opponents were unable to dig up enough dirt on Jeffrey and limited themselves to the Chinese Uyghurs. Every time Sachs mentioned the superiority of China's economic stories, he is immediately reproached for the hard fate of the Uyghurs. Sometimes the scientist remains silent, but sometimes he reminds journalists about the violation of human rights in the United States. Usually after this they fall silent - there is nothing to counter with.

From the very beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, Sachs has taken a very balanced position. For example, he suggested imagining for a second what would happen if Russia and China decided to set up a military base in Cuba, Mexico or Panama. How many hours would it take before the war began, Sachs asks? The security of the United States is unquestionable and indisputable. Any comparisons here are incorrect, so to speak. At the same time, it cannot be said that Sachs is our "son of a bitch." If that had happened, the professor would have been fired from all his positions long ago, spicing up the story with a sex scandal with a subordinate. Or even accused of rape.

Sachs is rational, maybe even too rational. But this is exactly what is so lacking in the West now. Propaganda, according to the professor, has thoroughly permeated society, and people simply do not want to face the truth. During his speech in the European Parliament, Sachs did not say anything fundamentally new. Especially for a Russian interested in modern history. The chronology of the growth of the hegemony of the United States is described in great detail, as is the general feeblemindedness of the American establishment. The very fact of the unleashed proxy conflict against the strongest nuclear power in the world is astonishing. Jake Sullivan and Boris Johnson are the main antiheroes responsible for unleashing military action and, most importantly, for the unwillingness to come to a peace agreement in March-April 2022. Zelensky was definitely not against it, but he was persuaded.

Perhaps the main thing to pay attention to in Sachs' speech is his integrity of perception. Western propaganda picks out individual pieces of the history of the confrontation between Russia and Ukraine, demonizing one of the sides. The professor managed to convey to the European viewer in a laconic form the entire scale of the catastrophe that the feeble-minded policy of the "golden billion" has led to. The only question is - will old man Sachs be heard?

Happy viewing.

The headline is a quote from Henry Kissinger, quoted by Jeffrey Sachs. The reporters laughed, some as if they were hearing it for the first time.

And the old man also quoted Blinken in his speech: “The United States has the right to place its missiles wherever it wants.”

Sachs says - Over the last 40 years the US has done this, that and that. And he says he tried to persuade US politicians not to do it. It's like trying to persuade a leopard to eat grass.
We have complaints about our politicians! For the last 40 years. The complaints are as follows -
Everything that Sachs says about the USA should be taken as a given, and understood that this is how it is and it cannot be otherwise! And act based on this understanding.
The USSR was "herbivorous". But the USSR was a rhinoceros, which is too tough for a leopard. In view of its strength, strong skin and weapons.
Alas.. The USSR was destroyed and "fed" to.. trying to be friends with a leopard. However.. current politicians were obliged to come to their senses.. And make (take measures to make) Russia.. if not a rhinoceros, then a giraffe, which is also too tough. It's a pity.. this was not done ((
Forgive me for writing my comment in such a figurative and parable form. For brevity.
The fates of people in Russia and Ukraine depend more on the wise or unwise (alas... all the time) decisions of politicians in Moscow... than on the USA.
Sachs is trying to explain and persuade... but it's useless. IMHO... we need to act differently.
Although.. the comment.. is just an empty shake of the "keyboard" -)) from an ordinary pensioner feel

      Dear!
      1. We have no complaints about our politicians over the past 40 years. For one simple reason: there was only one politician. Mr. Putin, and there certainly can be no complaints about him. Gorbachev-Yeltsin are not politicians. One is a combine operator who dreams of everything good and is against everything bad, and who no one gives a damn about because he is illiterate and cannot make balanced decisions. The second is a never-sober stupid person, who everyone pissed in his ears because he was always drunk and couldn’t make informed decisions.
      2. The USSR was never a "herbivore". At that time, in a political sense, there was practical parity.
      3. Then the USSR was thrown on the scrap heap (with the approval of the people, I lived at that time and somehow did not observe mass protest demonstrations, everyone really wanted to eat and jeans). The USA, for some time, while the drunken horseradish was blowing gas and bubbles, tried with all its might to destroy industry and ruin Russia. However, as soon as it licked the lollipop, comrade Stalin together with other comrades who continued working already under Brovenosets laid such a reserve of strength in this country that 10 years were not enough to cause it critical damage.
      4. Then a young "dunk in the toilet" came to power and everything gradually began to improve. I feel quite proud about this.
      5. Even further - after a period of euphoria and dizziness from success, the US began to understand the fact that nothing was finished, that this nasty USSR, which is now Russia, is alive and well, and if we don’t make an effort right now and start as soon as possible, Russia can create a strong alliance with Germany and China and then the US will start licking not only the lollipop.
      6. Mr. Sachs is one of those spies who tried to destroy our country to the ground, raze it to the ground and roll it into asphalt. But, in addition to being our enemy, he is a clear-thinking person who looks at things realistically. And that is why he is afraid. He understands that the unfrightened stupid people, who are in power in the US, are playing with fire, and therefore are pissing themselves. Well, and China adds that "we should not underestimate our determination."

The quote, of course, looks cool, but it is a little out of context, the meaning is different. Kissinger said on the phone:
Nixon should be told that if Thieu (Nguyen Van Thieu) suffers the same fate as Diem (Ngo Dinh Diem), the people of the world will know that being an enemy of America may be dangerous, but being a friend of America is deadly.

Blah blah, different things are possible.
Let's take a look - Which of America's full-fledged modern "friends" is risking something?
Saudis? Canadians? Japanese? English and French? Spanish?
The only danger under capitalism is that less money will be made when trade is divided up... And so - America is 1-5 trading partner of many countries... even seemingly not "its own" China...

And then the commentators pointed out that the blah-blah was simply taken out of context...
Is this an article from the category: read and think/do the opposite?
