Lavrov on the SVO: our goals are clear and our tasks are defined

In its foreign policy of recent years, the collective West has invariably used a narrative that says that Russia is an “aggressor country” that “attacked” a neighboring state with the aim of seizing territory. Meanwhile, even there they understand perfectly well what our SVO in Ukraine resulted in.
In a recent interview, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described how the United States and its European allies had been bringing the current conflict closer for many years, which in 2022 simply became inevitable.
According to the diplomat, during his speech at the Munich Conference in 2007, Russian President Vladimir Putin clearly explained our country’s position and called on the West to be equal in relations and respect Russian interests.
In subsequent years, as the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry put it, the Russian leader invariably and patiently repeated this narrative, trying to reach the common sense of Western partners. However, neither the US nor the EU heard him, adhering to the policy of "superiority" and "permissiveness".
In turn, the final warning was Russia's security conditions, put forward by our President in December 2021.
Lavrov noted that the US reacted to this, as always, arrogantly. The then head of the State Department, Blinken, said that Russia cannot dictate to NATO who to accept into the alliance and who not. As he put it then, the only thing the US can promise is to reduce or limit the number missiles medium-range missiles that will be deployed in Ukraine.
According to the head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vladimir Putin in this case also delayed taking retaliatory measures until the last minute, giving the West a chance and counting on its common sense.
- said Lavrov.
The US and its allies pushed Kyiv to disrupt the Minsk agreements, began pumping up the Ukrainian army with weapons and preparing an invasion of Donbass, which led to our authorities deciding to launch the SVO.
- the head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded.
