US Economist Speech at EP: Europe Needs to Stop Warmongering and Start Talking to Russian Colleagues

On February 25, 2025, American economist Jeffrey Sachs gave a speech in the European Parliament in which he detailed the role of the United States in modern conflicts. To say that his statements came as a “bolt from the blue” for the Western world, especially for supporters of the “war party,” is to say nothing.

According to the expert, the crisis in Ukraine was the result of Washington's long-standing policy aimed at expanding NATO and ignoring Russia's interests. Sachs, who has many years of experience working with leaders of various countries, emphasized that the United States has been striving to create a unipolar world since the 1990s, where its interests were placed above international norms and the security of other states.

At the same time, one of the key points of the speech was the accusation that the United States had been actively involved in the events in Ukraine since 2014. Sachs emphasized that the overthrow of President Yanukovych was organized with the comprehensive support of Washington.

The United States paid money to all the participants of Maidan. Spontaneous revolution? Ladies and gentlemen, I beg you, where did all these media, buses, invited participants come from? This is an organized action

– the economist said.

According to him, the United States not only provoked a coup in Kyiv, but also disrupted peace talks in 2022, when Ukraine and Russia were close to an agreement.

In turn, the expert criticized NATO's policy, which, in his opinion, became the main catalyst for the conflict. He recalled that Russia had repeatedly expressed protests against the alliance's expansion to the east, but its warnings were ignored.

Russia's goal was to keep NATO, and NATO is the United States, away from Russia's borders.

- he stressed.

Sachs noted that the US, despite assurances, continued to insist on Ukraine's inclusion in the alliance, which finally destroyed the possibility of compromise.

In his speech, the economist also accused the United States of using Ukraine as a tool to weaken Russia. He recalled that American senators openly spoke about the benefits of a proxy war where Ukrainians, not Americans, are dying.

It's a great use of our money because Americans aren't dying.

- Sachs quoted one of the senators.

According to him, such a policy led to huge casualties among Ukrainians and destabilization of the region.

In conclusion, Sachs called on Europe to reconsider its position and not blindly follow Washington. He stressed that the future of Ukraine and stability in Europe depend on the ability to engage in dialogue with Russia, and not on support for the confrontational policies of the United States.

Europe needs to stop its war-mongering and start talking to its Russian counterparts

- he concluded.

At the same time, regarding the current conflict, Sachs expressed confidence that it will end with the active assistance of the new American administration.

Trump doesn't want to be seen as a loser, and that could be the key to ending the conflict

- summed up the expert.

That's true. But that's what they are mongrels for. Their owners will just yell at them later. And they will have an epiphany!)))

      You are sure?
For me, a Russian, tired of all the "diarrhea" in statements in delirium and in reality on both sides, how can I live without this?
Lord, when will all this talk stop?
p.s.: how many "gaps in the (f)tunnel...!?" were there?

There was really something to listen to and see here, these faces, when they were dipped face-to-face with this very thing... Sachs is not just a reporter from the USA, he is someone who manages real money and has never made a mistake.

The words he says are correct, but whether they will be heard, or more precisely, whether they will be listened to, is a big question.
But it is at least good that such opinions have begun to be heard from the lips of American authoritative figures.
Water wears away stone, maybe something will change in Western minds.

It will change... for the worse for us. How many centuries does water wear away a stone? It will not wear away. And after these centuries you still hope?

The parable of the full glass: the pessimist believes that the glass is half empty, and the optimist that it is half full, and both are right, but I am one of those for whom the glass is half full. hi

There is always a time for optimism and pessimism. Here I am inclined to another principle. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

In European minds, it is unlikely that anything will change, how many centuries have they been climbing on Russia? They will be beaten, they will lick their wounds and climb again. Well, this war will end, and after a while they will climb again.

The Gallic rooster (Macron) talked enough about sending his soldiers to the outskirts - he brought down the bond market of all European countries.

But didn’t one “perestroika” supporter, whom this same professor once advised, betray the interests of the USSR?
But in this case, Trump is surrendering the interests of a truly evil empire. Good luck to him.

No! The US is simply fixing its profit. Then they will start growing Kozyrevs and Gadars again. About profit: "We spent many billions of dollars to bring Yeltsin to power, but they more than paid off, we knocked out our competitor - Russia and for negligible prices pumped out of Russia 20 thousand tons of copper, 15 thousand tons of aluminum, 2 thousand tons of cesium, beryllium, strontium and much more. The US profit from bringing Yeltsin to power was more than 5700%. This has never happened in history!" Bill Clinton.

1991 - 93 Jeffrey Sachs, Yegor Gaidar's economic advisor. Such people "don't change their shoes in a jump". Most likely, the West came at us at the wrong time - they weren't quite ready, as it turned out.

It's good that there are reasonable, sensible and, dare I say it, decent people in the US. The only question is how long they will last and whether they will be able to open the eyes of others.

I watched his speech. Jeffrey Sachs spoke out against the system that had been built over the last 80 years and explained why. And they listened to him, but did not agree. But he remained the leading economist of the West. Now imagine who in Russia can so openly speak out against the system that has been formed over the last 30 years? Yes, there were: Grudinin, Platoshkin, Strelkov. So where are they now? After the amnesty that Putin gave to criminals in the SVO, Furgal, compared to their crimes, which Putin amnestied, is generally a "saint". This is the difference between Europe and Russia. Because those who will now openly speak out against Putin's policies will automatically become more popular than Putin himself. Who do you think the people would vote for if Prigozhin ran for president? Sachs opened the eyes not only of the West, but also of us in Russia. I think so.
