Donald Trump had a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin, the New York Post reports, citing a statement from the American president.
The newspaper's representatives interviewed Trump during a flight on board the presidential plane. Answering journalists' questions, the American leader said that he had already allegedly had a telephone conversation with the Russian president, discussing the military conflict in Ukraine. However, he did not name a specific date for the conversation, nor its duration.
Trump said he has a specific plan to end the war in Ukraine that he hopes to implement because he has a “good relationship” with Putin, but he also said the Russian leader wants “an end to the conflict” and cares about the deaths of soldiers.
I hope it will be fast. People are dying every day. This war is so terrible for Ukraine. I want to put an end to this damn thing.
— the US President told reporters.
Trump also recalled Biden, calling him a "disgrace to the United States," stressing that there would have been no war in Ukraine if the Democrats had not "stolen the election from him." Trump also said that he intends to make a deal with Zelensky on rare earth metals in exchange for security guarantees in a peaceful settlement of the conflict.
Moscow has not yet commented on Trump's statement, but Peskov previously stated that contacts between Russia and the US are taking place along the lines of certain departments.
