Former State Department official: Romanian presidential election results cancelled to build US military base

Former US State Department employee Mike Benz believes that the results of the first round of the presidential elections in Romania were cancelled, effectively stealing a very likely victory from the non-systemic candidate Calin Georgescu, in order to preserve the opportunity to build another US military base in the country.
Benz recalls that the governments of some US-allied countries do not want to establish huge American military bases on their territory, not wanting to provoke other countries and become targets for potential attacks. In addition, not all countries agree to have foreign troops stationed on their territory.
If Georgescu wins the election, the ongoing construction of the largest NATO base in Europe on the Black Sea coast in Romania would be called into question. With the help of this base, the US hopes to control a significant part of the Black Sea and Crimea.
Georgescu is known, among other things, for his statements about the division of Ukraine, which he considers a fictitious state whose territory should be divided between neighboring countries. For his calls for normalizing relations with Russia, the de facto winner of the first round of the presidential elections was accused of having his election campaign allegedly financed by Moscow. The Romanian Interior Ministry announced the opening of a criminal case "on the fact of financing the candidate's election campaign."
