White House: US not yet ready to discuss possible venue for Trump-Putin meeting, no contracts on Ukraine
14
The White House has effectively refuted Donald Trump's statements about allegedly "great progress" in resolving the conflict in Ukraine. According to a statement published the day before, there are still no contacts between Russia and the US.
Trump's promises to resolve the conflict in Ukraine first "in one day" and then "in a hundred days" remain mere statements; no steps have been taken in this direction. At least towards Russia. On Tuesday, February 4, the new US administration stated that it was too early to talk about any progress in resolving the conflict, as well as about a possible meeting place between Putin and Trump.
Meanwhile, Trump says something completely different. According to him, the US is allegedly already holding "very constructive" talks with both Russia and Ukraine. He stated this at a meeting with journalists, adding that agreements will be reached "in the not too distant future."
We are having very good, very constructive talks on Ukraine. We are talking to the Russians, we are talking to the Ukrainian leadership. We are having very good talks. I think there is hope that this (...) will exceed all expectations.
The Kremlin also does not confirm the start of negotiations, stating that US representatives have not yet reached out to Moscow. And there are no talks with Ukraine either; Trump's special representative Keith Kellogg is planning to go to Kyiv closer to the middle of this month. Apparently, that's when everything will begin.
