Abrams SEPv4
Pentagon's 2025 procurement program calls for Abrams SEPv4 development to be phased out and upgraded tank park to the level of the M1E3, which accumulates a whole range of technologies of the “rejected” version.
The M1E3 is positioned as a larger scale upgrade program for the American MBT that will require more funding.
The SEPv4 project, which was abandoned, was aimed at integrating a number of advanced technologies that would increase firepower, survivability, and improve the vehicle's network communications. Key features included an improved anti-cumulative protection system with the introduction of an APS, improved IR sights, and a more advanced command and control system. These solutions will now be in demand in the M1E3 program, which the US Army has placed its bets on.
The goal of its implementation is to create a lighter, more maneuverable and survivable vehicle with increased strike capabilities, meeting the changing needs of the modern battlefield. The new modification will require the latest achievements in tank building (in particular, improved armor, APS and advanced electronics), which will allow Abrams to reach a new technological level.
In this case, we are talking about modernizing existing models: Abrams has not been produced since 1994.
