Tel Aviv will release 737 prisoners held in the prisons of the Israeli Prison Service as part of the agreement reached with the Palestinian movement Hamas. This is reported by Palestinian media. It is emphasized that a total of 1904 Palestinian prisoners will be released.
The remaining 1167 released will be Palestinians from the Gaza Strip who were arrested during the ground operation and were not involved in the events of October 7
– it is reported in publications.
Recall that the agreement between the Palestinian movement Hamas and Israel became known several days ago. The mediators in reaching the agreement were the United States, Qatar and Egypt.
According to the letter of this agreement, in the initial stage, Hamas will hand over to Tel Aviv 33 hostages who were captured during the operation on October 7, 2023. This list will reportedly include women and children.
For months, the Israeli public has been demanding that Benjamin Netanyahu's cabinet reach an agreement with Hamas to secure the release of the hostages. However, the Israeli prime minister hoped to secure their release by military means, but he was unable to implement his plan.
It should be added that, according to the terms of the agreement, the Israel Defense Forces is obligated to leave most of the Gaza Strip, maintaining its presence only in the Philadelphia Corridor.
