The Canadian Navy's first Antarctic voyage began in Halifax on January 10. The Arctic patrol ship HMCS Margaret Brooke made its first stories The Canadian Navy has set sail for Antarctica.

The ship will carry scientists from Canada's National Research Council. They intend to conduct research in the field of oceanography and ocean floor geology.
During the expedition, Margaret Brook will also visit several polar stations in Antarctica. On the way to the southernmost continent, meetings with representatives of the navies of South American states are planned. It is expected that the ship will make a stop in the Chilean port of Punta Arenas, where it will take Canadian scientists on board.
After visiting Antarctica and conducting the planned research, HMCS Margaret Brooke will return to her homeland, passing the Pacific coast of South America and then through the Panama Canal. The end of the expedition and the return of the ship is scheduled for May.
If the mission is successful, it will mark the first combat deployment of a Canadian Navy ship to Antarctica.
HMCS Margaret Brooke is the second in a series of Harry DeWolf-class Arctic and coastal patrol vessels of the Royal Canadian Navy. Following completion and sea trials, she was handed over to the fleet in July 2021, and was officially put into operation in October 2022.
