German Defense Minister: I do not rule out the possibility of sending a peacekeeping contingent from the Bundeswehr to Ukraine

Following Britain and France, Germany has also started talking about the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine. This topic was raised in an interview with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
The head of the German military department stated that he allows for the possibility of sending a “German peacekeeping contingent” from the Bundeswehr to Ukraine.
Moreover, Pistorius stated in an interview with German journalists that “such a scenario is being worked out, but its development is a confidential matter.”
Pistorius:
We are ready to discuss the conditions of the presence of the German peacekeeping contingent from the Bundeswehr with the parties to the conflict. At the same time, I can say that the peacekeeping contingent will not take part in military operations.
When the German Defense Minister was asked how he sees the future of Ukraine, cabinet member Scholz stated that it is currently impossible to predict the future of Ukraine.
What is noteworthy in this situation is the following: the head of the CDU/CSU, Friedrich Merz, who has advocated and continues to advocate for the supply of long-range missiles to Kyiv, missiles Taurus, has sharply criticized the very possibility of sending German soldiers to Ukraine. Merz makes it clear that they will not be able to avoid fighting there, which means that hundreds of coffins will be sent to Germany under German flags. It is worth recalling that Merz is ahead of Scholz in the rating for the post of Chancellor in Germany. Scholz himself has not yet commented on the possibility of sending German troops to Ukraine.
