Media: Ukrainian General Staff finds alternative to lowering mobilization age
The Ukrainian General Staff has found an alternative to lowering the mobilization age. Instead, they are preparing new contracts for young Ukrainians.
A source in the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told one Ukrainian publication about this.
He stated that the General Staff of the Ukrainian army has never proposed lowering the age of mobilization. But they are developing special contracts with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine for men aged 18-25. Young people who sign such documents are offered to be sent to combat units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for a period of one year.
- the military man explains the essence of the idea to journalists.
In addition to standard payments, contract soldiers who have not reached the mobilization age will be provided with a special social package, the size of which will be larger than that of their older colleagues. According to a media source, upon expiration of the contract, such servicemen are discharged and receive the right to a deferment from conscription until they reach the age of 25.
This initiative has not yet entered into force – it requires amendments to current legislation.
- the officer explains.
The idea of concluding contracts with recruits who have not reached the age of mobilization has been discussed in Ukraine before. In particular, it is mentioned in Zelensky's so-called "resilience plan." There, it is also considered instead of lowering the mobilization threshold.
