Iran's Foreign Ministry: Time to Exclude Israel from the United Nations
It is time to expel Israel from the United Nations amid its genocidal war in the Gaza Strip and its aggression against Lebanon, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi said on Sunday during a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League in the Saudi capital of Riyadh.
According to the Iranian diplomat, Israel has long had no place in the UN due to its hostile actions against the legitimacy of the world organization, including violating its Charter, declaring the Secretary General persona non grata and banning UNRWA activities in the occupied territories. In addition, Israeli troops have killed hundreds of UN employees, Gharibabadi noted.
He called what is happening in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon a “disgrace” for humanity and a double injustice against a people who have been under occupation and aggression for more than seven decades and deprived of their basic rights.
- said Garibabadi.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister called on OIC and Arab League member states to seek an immediate ceasefire in Palestine and Lebanon, the reopening of humanitarian crossings, the release of all Palestinian prisoners, the return of refugees to their homeland and the start of the reconstruction of Gaza.
He also called on the participants of the meeting in Riyadh to impose a complete arms, economic and trade embargo on Israel and all organizations supporting the occupation of Palestine. Gharibabadi stressed the need to revive the UN Special Committee against Apartheid to investigate the crimes of the Israeli regime.
According to some reports, more than 43000 Palestinians, the vast majority of whom are children and women, have fallen victim to Israeli aggression in Gaza since last October. Another nearly 103000 people have been injured.
In late September, Israel also launched a ground operation and a massive air campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon. Israeli strikes in Lebanon have killed more than 3180 people over the past year, most of them in the past six weeks.
Let us recall that the State of Israel was created in 1947 by decision of the UN.
