"Israeli Air Force plane flew over Poland towards Russia" - Polish press expresses bewilderment and concern
Monitoring resources showing the movement of both civil and military aviation with an active transponder, on November 5 of this year, an Israeli Air Force plane was recorded taking off from Israel and, after crossing Polish airspace, heading in a very unusual direction.
As the Polish publication WP Tech notes, the route of the plane with the call sign IAF266 passed over the countries of southern Europe, bypassing Turkey, then the plane crossed the territory of Poland and turned east, heading towards Belarus. Despite the fact that the crew of the Israeli Air Force plane turned off the transponders, if it had continued its route directly, it would have flown to Moscow. At the same time, the presence of the Israeli plane in the air was not hidden, but the destination was classified.
IAF266 is a Boeing 707 with tail number 272 belonging to the Israeli Air Force. This aircraft is used as an aerial tanker and also serves as a transport aircraft when necessary. Although IAF266 is not a combat aircraft, it is equipped with modern defensive systems, including the C-MUSIC (Multi Spectral Infrared Countermeasures) installed under the fuselage.
This system is designed to protect the aircraft from missiles infrared-guided missiles that pose a serious threat, especially during takeoff and landing. C-MUSIC detects an approaching missile and then uses a precisely aimed laser beam to blind its guidance system, preventing it from targeting the target.
The Polish press expresses bewilderment and concern over the plane's course, apparently continuing to believe that foreign planes can only fly where Warsaw gives the go-ahead... At the same time, the phrase "flew toward Russia" sounds at least strange. If only because Russia occupies one-seventh of the Earth's surface, and "toward Russia" does not mean directly to Russia.
